The Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship is an entrepreneurship-focused resource center at the CU Denver Business School. Emphasizing real-world experience and learning, the Jake Jabs Center is dedicated to educating and empowering undergraduate and graduate students to think and act entrepreneurially. Through the Center’s undergraduate, graduate and certification programs, students learn and apply modern business practices in an open and diverse environment. The Center’s relationships with local business leaders and successful entrepreneurs provide opportunities and support services for students, whether they choose to launch their own startup or join an existing organization. The Center was founded in 1996 at the CU Denver Business School to foster economic development in Denver and the Rocky Mountain region. Richard and Pamela Bard provided startup funding for the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship in 1996, supporting a program that prepared future leaders for success in any business venture. The Center was renamed the Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship in 2013 following a gift of $10 million from Jake Jabs, President, and CEO of American Furniture Warehouse and one of Colorado’s greatest entrepreneurs. The Jake Jabs Center hosts entrepreneurship-focused events such as THE CLIMB, FLASH Accelerator, Design Horizons Lab, Rutt Bridges Venture Fund, and the Innovators Outreach Program (ION).   • We had the honor of hosting @Elizabeth (Ellis) Welch, CEO of @iDE (International Development Enterprises), in our graduate level, ENTP 6200 – Purpose-Driven Innovation in Social Entrepreneurship course last Tuesday. With over 20 years of experience driving economic and social impact across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, Elizabeth Welch emphasized that the key to her success has always been putting people first. As the leader of iDE, a non-profit social enterprise, she shared how the organization takes a market-driven approach to solving critical environmental and social challenges. Elizabeth highlights two of iDE’s many most impactful ventures, including Hydrologic, which manufactures ceramic water filters to provide clean water to rural communities in Cambodia, and ATEC, a joint venture in Bangladesh that is scaling biodigester technology to bring clean cooking solutions to thousands. These initiatives are a testament to iDE’s commitment to empowering communities by providing access to technology, finance, and market ecosystems, fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth worldwide. A huge thank you to Elizabeth for such an inspiring and insightful presentation to our class. Your and IDEs' work continues to spark innovation and make a meaningful impact!
