JLR has pledged up to ￡2.5M to the JLR Foundation this year, which it will use to make grant awards to charitable organisations and NGOs to help them deliver initiatives that champion equity and support disadvantaged young people by providing access to opportunities, resources and educational experiences. Aligned with our Reimagine strategy, setting up the JLR Foundation builds on our long-standing commitment to youth development and education initiatives and strengthens the positive impact we can have in the communities we operate in. Edward Wilson, Lead Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Test Engineer based at our Gaydon HQ, plays a vital role in driving innovation in electric technology by?ensuring that every component of our electric vehicles, from high-voltage inverters to electric motors, meets optimal quality and safety standards before reaching the market. ? ? Edward said: “Would you attempt to drive a petrol or diesel vehicle 30 miles with the fuel light on? Would you attempt to drive 30 miles when your vehicle says ‘CHARGE NOW’? I truly believe continuous learning and innovation are essential for tackling the future of engineering.”? ? From enduring temperatures of -20℃ during his most recent testing trip in Sweden, to scorching desert conditions in the UAE, Edward’s engineering expertise takes him to various testing locations to ensure JLR’s vehicles perform to optimum performance and capability, regardless of where in the world they are driven. This commitment to international standards ensures JLR’s dedication to quality is paramount.? ? “Being able to experience our products in such a harsh environment is amazing; driving over a frozen lake on 30cm of ice has you feeling all sorts of emotions! Seeing the fleet in these conditions really showcases their capabilities; it's fantastic to see them tackle arduous terrain as intended, instead of just cruising down the M40!? ? “The most interesting part of my job is the challenge of integrating past experience with cutting-edge technology. Every project represents a major stride in automotive innovation; I’m proud to contribute to JLR’s unique approach to electrification which involves creating exceptional vehicles that just happen to be electric. As with any development trips with prototype vehicles, challenges are both expected and unexpected, even in the most ‘normal’ conditions. You have to be of a certain mindset to overcome the obstacles you face and ensure the trip is a success.”? ? Discussing misconceptions around EVs, Edward added: “We're all working extremely hard to create a perfect product for the client and for the products to be competitive in market. Naturally not everyone fully understands EV technology. JLR is making a $180m investment in its USA #technology hub in Portland, Oregon, as part of a global drive to develop and bring to market next generation connectivity and autonomous driving technologies in future JLR vehicles. Over the next decade, the company will invest around $180 million into the 50,000 sq. ft technology hub as its engineers develop a range of cutting-edge connectivity and autonomous technologies, as vehicles become increasingly software-driven and clients desire an increasing array of apps, services and features. The team at the Portland hub, which opened in 2014, is part of JLR’s global network of nine JLR technology hubs around the world engaged in creating the company’s next generation vehicles, which will epitomize modern luxury and deliver a connected experience for clients. #JLR #Reimagine #Innovation #Engineering

Lauren Rudd has wanted to be in engineering since she was a young girl. She’s currently on the Level 3 Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship starting in 2022. “I am proud that I followed the engineering pathway and pursued my dream career here at JLR.” She’s able to put into place what she’s learnt, with her favourite learning being the robotic course. Last week, we launched our new #CreativityForGood initiative, which gives employees the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge to help accelerate sustainable innovations in collaboration with charities and non-governmental organisations.?? ? For our first project, we will be working with The Washing Machine Project, who developed the Divya washing machine - the world’s first flat-packable washing machine - to alleviate the burden of handwashing in low income, displaced communities.?? Our colleagues will support the development of a second-generation washing machine with the ambition to reduce the production cost, and make it easier to assemble, distribute and repair.??
