  • Op-eds debuted in the New York Times in 1970, and they have been a staple of quality thought leadership ever since. While the digital age has changed the way people read op-eds, they are still an invaluable PR tool if you know how to leverage them. First, be intentional about the purpose of your op-ed. There should be a direct call to action in the text which targets a specific group of people. Keeping this intention in mind will make the piece more direct and impactful. Next, consider where you want your op-ed to land. The media landscape is more fractured than ever, something you can use to your advantage. Pitching to publications which consistently deliver content relating to the topic you are writing about will yield greater results than pitching broadly. Finally, publishing an op-ed is just the beginning. The content can be repurposed into LinkedIn posts, sent out as a press release, leveraged into podcast appearances and much more. You spent time crafting your ideas; make the most out of them. At Jaffe Communications, we've written, pitched and repurposed hundreds of op-eds. So if you have an opinion you want to share, give us a call today!

  • It's conference season, and that means it's time for conference speeches. Speaking at a conference is an exciting?opportunity, and there are a few things you should take into consideration before you take the stage. First, an invitation to speak at a conference is not an invitation to say whatever you want. Your audience is interested in what you have to say for a reason, so make sure to focus your speech on information and stories which will be helpful to them. Next, you can gain or lose your audience in the first 30 seconds of your speech. Consider?starting with a witty anecdote, shocking statistic?or rhetorical question to draw your audience in right away. Finally, be mindful of your eye contact. It's okay to bring notes, or even a script, up to the podium, but don't get too lost in reading. It helps to pick three points in the room, one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right, and use those as your eye contact anchor points so everyone feels like they're being addressed At Jaffe Communications, we're here to help you in every step of the speech-making process, from the writing all the way to the delivery. So if you're feeling those pre-speech jitters, give us a call today. #prtips #conferencetips #conferenceseason #keynote

  • Your big press release is ready to go. There's just one thing missing: a quote to tie the story together. Crafting a great quote is not as easy as it seems, and there are a few things to think about before you publicize your statement. ? First, your quote has to?add?something to the story you are telling. It shouldn't just reiterate what the rest of the release already says; it should add an alternative angle that only you can provide. ? Next, you need to figure out what tone works best for this particular release. Is it an important budgetary announcement? Then keep your tone serious and straightforward. Is it recapping an entertaining event at the local rec center? Then you can have a little fun. ? Finally, be very selective about the?vocabulary you use. Strongly charged words like "excited" and "thrilled" don't convey professionalism. Instead, try to emphasize your point without going over the top by using a word such as "pleased." ? At Jaffe Communications, we've helped craft quotes for announcements, crisis statements, and everything in between. Give us a call today to make sure you're always finding the right words. ? #prtips #publicrelations

  • People don't usually associate PR with humor, but when used correctly, humor can be an excellent addition to your PR toolbox. There are a few things you must consider before trying to make your audience crack a smile. First, forced humor is worse than no humor at all. If there's a natural opportunity to include a joke or play on words, go for it, but actively trying to shove humor where it doesn't belong comes off as disingenuous?and will turn your audience off. Next, have a very clear sense of where your audience's boundaries are. The jokes you make with your friends?and family are not the same ones to make for your audience. Keep?any attempts?at humor clean and accessible and NEVER poke fun at any particular group or individual. Most importantly, lean into shared experiences to make your humor resonate with your audience. Everyone likes to feel like they're "in" on a joke, so if you can work in a humorous story about an industry-specific experience into your public messaging, people in that space will be more likely to view you as "one of them." Figuring out when to use humor and what humor will land is tricky, and it is nearly impossible to do alone. Luckily, at Jaffe Communications, we know how to make people laugh (depending on who you ask). Give us a call today to make sure you bring a smile to your audience's face. #prtips #publicrelations

  • One of the most common questions we are asked at Jaffe Communications is "how do I establish myself as a unique voice in my space?" ? The first step is to think about what experiences set you apart from everyone else. Your life and your career journey are yours alone. Leverage them to separate yourself from others in your industry. ? Next, think about your communication style. When speaking?with?someone, do you usually tell stories? Cite statistics? Make logical appeals? Do you have a dramatic?flair? Or are you straight to the point? Consider all these questions when crafting your public voice. ? Lastly, it is crucial to think about the nuances in your language. Figure out what words and phrases you naturally use and double down on them to craft a style that is uniquely yours. ? At Jaffe Communications, we've helped hundreds of professionals hone their voice so they can become leaders in their space. If you want help finding yours, reach out today! #prtips #publicrelations #findyourvoice #communications

  • In the age of social media, finding a good image to go along with your story is more important than ever. But it's not as simple as throwing a stock photo in with your press release. There are a few things you need to consider when choosing which pictures should represent your story. ? First, original pictures are always better than stock pictures. Especially?if you're writing about an event, location, or person, an original picture can go a long way towards getting your readers engaged. ? Next, make sure your pictures are actually relevant to your story. Ideally, they should explain something the text alone cannot and provide additional context to your narrative. Finally, high resolution photos are essential. With the endless amounts of high resolution?images available across the internet, people notice when one is blurry. Bonus tip: if any of your images have a lot of open space outside of the main focus, don't be afraid to crop it down. You want to make it as easy as possible for people to focus where you need?them to. ? At Jaffe Communications, we take, select, and edit pictures that will help your stories soar. So if you want to give your story some visual flare, we're here to help. #prtips #publicrelations #mediarelations

Pitching and placing is not just a numbers game. It's about getting your story in the right outlets so it reaches the right eyes. ? The first step in any good media relations campaign is research. What are the most read publications in your niche? What types of stories do those publications usually run? Do they prefer feature pieces or short news briefings? ? Once you've developed a strong, targeted?list, you can move on to the fun part: pitching. When pitching a journalist, it's important to personalize. You don't want the journalist?feeling like they're just one name on a list of emails. Address them by name, tell them exactly why your story fits their audience, and thank them for their time. ? Finally, following up is a must in the media relations cycle. Journalists are inundated with emails every day, so if you aren't consistently reaching out, your pitch will just get lost in the flood. Don't just follow up via email, either. Get on the phone and?call them.?That one simple step makes you stand out from the rest. ? At Jaffe Communications, we take the guesswork out of media relations. We handle everything from the preliminary research, to pitching, all the way to follow ups. So if you have a story you want to get in front of the right eyes, make sure to give us a call. #prtips #mediapitching #mediarelations #publicrelations
