September 17, 2024 was national voter registration day. With help from a grant from National Voter Registration Day, The School of Social Work partnered with Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable, We Must Vote, and the City of Jackson’s Office of Violence Prevention & Trauma Recovery hosted a voter registration drive. Because we have students from all over the country that attend Jackson State, we were able to instruct them on how to change their address as well as inform them on how to fill out absentee ballots in their hometowns. Everyone who registered to vote was entered into a raffle to win JSU items purchased from the bookstore. If your name is pulled, please message us so that we can get your prize to you!#NationalVoterRegistrationDay #SocialJusticeISSOcialWork #JSUSSW #JSU #JacksonState #DoingTHEEWork #YourVOTEYourVOICE

The School of Social Work would like to congratulate MSW Assistant Professor, Candace Riddley, PhD, MSW, LCSW on her appointment to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) MS Board of Directors! Her dedication and compassion are truly making a difference in the lives of those she serves. Her hard work is an inspiration to us all. When asked about this opportunity and what it means to her, Dr. Riddley said, "To show my commitment to promoting positive change in mental health care and advocacy at the state level, I applied to serve on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) MS Board of Directors. With over 19 years of experience in the field of social work, particularly in mental health, I wanted to give back to the community by contributing my time and skills to a cause that I care deeply about. The mission of the NAMI MS is to improve the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families through support, education, and advocacy, a mission that aligns with my personal and professional values to enhance the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness in the State of Mississippi. Being appointed to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) MS Board of Directors solidifies one of my goals in serving on a committee, board, and/or commission. After my recent appointment to the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) Council of The Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education, this opportunity signifies a significant role in shaping mental health advocacy and support at a local, state, or national level." Please join us in congratulating Dr. Riddley as she continues to #DoTHEEWork. We admire her dedication and persistent drive to explore avenues that enhance her growth and advancement in the field of social work! #CSWE #CouncilOnSocialWorkEducation #DoingTHEEWork #JSUSSW #JSU #JacksonState #SocialWork #WomenInSocialWork #NAMIMS #NAMI
