In Los Angeles and around the world, we advance and share visual art and cultural heritage for the benefit of all.

关于我们

One of the largest supporters of arts in the world, the J. Paul Getty Trust is an international cultural and philanthropic institution that focuses on the visual arts in all their dimensions. Getty serves both the general public and a wide range of professional communities in Los Angeles and throughout the world. Through the work of the four Getty programs—the Museum, Research Institute, Conservation Institute, and Foundation—the Getty aims to further knowledge and nurture critical seeing through the growth and presentation of its collections and by advancing the understanding and preservation of the world's artistic heritage. The Getty pursues this mission with the conviction that cultural awareness, creativity, and aesthetic enjoyment are essential to a vital and civil society.

Congratulations to Emerson Bowyer and Anne-Lise Desmas for winning CAA - Advancing Art & Design’s prestigious Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award for "Camille Claudel." Copublished by the J. Paul Getty Museum and Art Institute of Chicago, "Camille Claudel" traces the exceptional career of a trailblazing sculptor who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, defied the social expectations of her time to pursue a powerful and expressive exploration of the human form. Featuring more than 200 images and with essays exploring the many facets of her life, work, and reception, this exhibition catalogue reevaluates the artist’s work on its own merits and repositions Claudel's legacy within a more complex genealogy of modernism. This perplexing ribbon twirling machine is actually an artwork named Fakir in 3/4 Time, created by married couple Lucy Jackson Young and engineer Niels O. Young. Utilizing the motor from a vacuum cleaner, it's both a triumph of engineering and a thrilling kinetic sculpture—a true collaboration between art and technology. Sensing the Future: Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) is on view at the Getty Center through February 23, 2025. https://lnkd.in/g384krXi

  • Join us this Saturday, February 15 from 6pm PT for a Sound Experience with Colloboh taking place both in-person and live-streamed online. In partnership with dublab, this will be an evening of sonic experimentation with producer and composer Colloboh inspired by Sensing the Future: Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), a current Getty Research Institute exhibition. This performance celebrates collaborations between artists and engineers—integrating technological processes, multi-sensory environments, modular synthesizers, and activated visual effects—tying the historical significance of E.A.T.’s groundbreaking pioneers with contemporary electronic experimentation. Advanced registration is now closed, but there will be a standby line and walk-ins are welcome. This event will be livestreamed on dublab.com. More information: https://lnkd.in/gsRvWjaE

He stands in a vertical striped white-and-grey long sleeve untucked button-up. He wears black slacks that gather around the ankles and black patent shoes. He stares directly into the camera. To the left is a piece of sound equipment with lots of multi-colored wires on the concrete floor. He stands in a unique aesthetic space with wood framed clear windows in the upper left and a horizontally striped white ceiling above him.
  • Last month, the Getty Research Institute and @dublab hosted a Synthesizer Sound Bath at LA’s Vintage Synthesizer Museum. Inspired by a current exhibit, Sensing the Future: Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), participants embarked on a unique sonic experience set to the harmonies of 30 synthesizers. The sound bath provided a space to relax, meditate, reflect, and listen in a serene atmosphere. After the LA wildfires, this event was a special offering for audiences to calm their minds, elevate their spirits, and be in creative community. Join us for the next sonic experience event happening on 2/15. More info here: https://lnkd.in/gsRvWjaE
