The Indy Jr Fuel 14U Gold team were crowned champions of the Central States Developmental Hockey League in the Prospects division in Chicago on Sunday, February 9th, a perfect end to an almost perfect record in regular season and playoff games. We have crunched the numbers... With more than 1,200 hockey players from across Indianapolis and all of the surrounding communities, we can officially say that we are one of the largest youth hockey organizations in the country. A sincere thank you is owed to all of the volunteers, coaches, families, and players for making our association so very successful! Stay tuned for what all we have in store for 2025, it'll be a good year for our players and the Indy area hockey community!

We have an important update on a few IYHA Alumni who have remained part of the hockey community: This past weekend in Detroit the Indiana Elite 2011 AAA team won the Slavin Division of the high-powered Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, coached by two generations of Doyon boys! Head Coach Drew Doyon played for the IYHA Indy Racers from 8U through 14U, winning a Tier II USA Hockey National Championship in 2010! He would then help lead his 16U & 18U AAA Indiana Jr Ice teams to back to back Dixon Cups as NAPHL champions before playing two years in the NAHL. He then captained the NCAA Division 3 Aurora University Spartans for three seasons. Coach Doyon returned to the Indianapolis area after college and almost immediately started coaching and winning, hoisting the Dixon Cup once again two seasons ago with the Indy Jr Fuel 14U/2008 AAA team! Assistant Coach Riley Doyon, Coach Drew’s younger brother, is also a proud IYHA alum with a history of hardware! Riley played for the IYHA Indy Racers from 8U through 14U, ALSO WINNING a Tier II USA Hockey National Championship at the 12U age group! His playing career would take him to the Detroit area for 16U & 18U as Indy did not have a program for players that age at the time. Riley then played two seasons in the NAHL before following his brother to NCAA Division 3 Aurora University. Assistant Coach Mario Doyon, Drew & Riley’s father, was a long-time coach with IYHA. He coached both of his boys as they grew up in the Racers and Jr Ice programs, collecting banners and advancing players every step of the way! Mario was a draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1986, and played NHL games with the Blackhawks & Quebec Nordiques. His playing career would take him all over the world, but twice here with the Indianapolis Racers (1989-90 & 2003-04). Most recently, Coach Mario helped Drew behind the bench with the Dixon Cup champion Indy Jr Fuel 2008 AAA team and last season served as the assistant coach to the Indy Jr Fuel 16U Gold team, helping them win 48 games and advance six players to Indiana Elite AAA teams. Congratulations to the Doyon coaches and the 2011 Indiana Elite AAA team!

Over the past week, we have been highlighting various IYHA alumni across our social media channels, but one has stood out! Dr. Matthew Bojrab, D.D.S. An oral surgeon in the Indianapolis area, head coach of the IYHA Jr Fuel 12U Girls travel team, and manager of the Indiana Elite 12U Girls Select team! Dr. Bojrab skated for IYHA teams from 1978 to 1990, winning the Silver Stick Regional Tournament in 1985. After graduating from Brebeuf Jesuit (1991 State Champs!) he then attended Lake Forest College in Illinois where he played for the Lakers JV college team for one season. He was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2003. Dr. Bojrab/Coach Bojrab completed his four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. He has a long list of accomplishments and positions in the dentistry and oral surgery... But most importantly, he is a great coach, manager, and hockey-dad! Dr. Bojrab is proof of how the lessons learned at the rink can contribute to success later in life. He states that his greatest achievement as a coach isn't in games or tournaments won, but seeing the growth in the teams from August to March. We're so pleased that Dr. Bojrab has continued to give back to our program!

Do have gently used hockey equipment? DONATE IT! We are opening a donation window at the Carmel Ice Skadium from July 15th to August 2nd for any extra gently used equipment that you'd like to get out of your house! Volunteers will be standing by, ready to help organize and sort your equipment. We will open a window for those in need of equipment as we get closer to the season, follow all IYHA social media pages to stay in the loop!
