Last night’s Educate and Elevate Family Night at Jacob Elementary was such a great time! Huge shoutout to Evolve502 for hosting and bringing everyone together. We started with a delicious dinner, and then families split off for some fun and learning. Parents got to hear from Play Cousins Collective who shared some really helpful tips on managing time and creating balance at home. Meanwhile, Evolve502 kept the kids busy with games in another room—it was a win-win for everyone! We’re so grateful for partners like Evolve502 and Play Cousins who help make these moments possible. Our mission is to provide resources and training to ensure that children with a history of trauma exposure receive equitable access to literacy instruction in order to become successful, confident readers. I Would Rather Be Reading provides coaching and training on trauma responsive literacy practices. At the local level (Louisville, KY) we offer after school programming, summer camps, and family engagement nights.

I came across this article from the The Wallace Foundation. What a great read! One of the key takeaways that was outlined was the need for the impactful use of data sharing to make programmatic decisions and report outcomes. In January of 2024, I Would Rather Be Reading established a Data & Storytelling Committee. We've worked to analyze our summer and after school literacy and social emotional learning data, created reports for invested groups, and implemented a data platform for use in the coming school year. I would like to thank Tracy Ashford, Keenan Burke, Roniqua Jeffries, and Sara Hannah for their tireless work in helping us get our data health in excellent shape!
