Driving after consuming cannabis is both dangerous and challenging to regulate. While every state prohibits driving under the influence, there is currently no reliable way to measure marijuana impairment. Director of the Injury & Violence Prevention Center, Ashley Brooks-Russell, explains more in a recent article from NPR. Responding to destructive wildfires, mass violence events, or everyday medical emergencies can be a normal day on the job for many first responders, but these sometimes dangerous and often traumatic incidents can also take a psychological toll. Ian Stanley, PhD, affiliate faculty at the Injury & Violence Prevention Center says, “You can imagine, of course, there are occupational-related reasons for that: shift work, repeated trauma exposure, workplace culture, and different coping mechanisms. But what’s often lost in these narratives is that life happens outside of the job, too, so these traumatic events can exacerbate some of those existing conditions.” https://lnkd.in/gjfMBiBZ CU Center for COMBAT Research | University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Congratulations on these accomplishments, Kaitlyn Jones, MPH, MSW, CHES ?, C-CHW! Kaitlyn is a valued team member of the Injury and Violence Center, working with the Community Organizing for Prevention—Evaluation Team.
A Lighter Moment in Uncertain Times I recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Buckeye Dinner for 12 with The Ohio State University College of Public Health where I connected with passionate young future public health professionals eager to serve and uplift the communities and populations that matter most to them. Their enthusiasm and commitment to public health were truly inspiring! I’m also thrilled to share that I’ve been elected as the Section Councilor for the American Public Health Association’s Public Health Social Work Section. This role reinforces my belief in the power of integrating public health and social work to create meaningful change. By joining forces, we can better address systemic challenges, advocate for equity, and advance the well-being of individuals and communities. In times of uncertainty, moments like these remind us why we do this work—and why collaboration is key to building a healthier, more just society. #PublicHealth #SocialWork #Leadership #CommunityWellbeing
