And That’s a Wrap! What an incredible way to finish my workshop with my good friends at Foxmoor Animal Hospital in New Jersey. A little backstory: Dr. Ashmore (Brian) and I have known each other for almost four years. Like so many practice owners, he was feeling burned out—pushing hard to grow his practice while trying to keep everything running smoothly. He told me, “I can’t keep doing this. It’s not sustainable.” I’ve heard this before—many times. But this time was different. We were sitting at a hotel bar during a conference, having one of those rare, honest conversations. Brian asked for my real opinion, and I gave it to him straight. It wasn’t easy to hear, but he took it in, reflected on it, and instead of feeling attacked, he saw the truth in it. A few weeks later, I was in his office facilitating our 4-day workshop. That was back in January. Fast forward to today—we just wrapped up, and hearing the team’s feedback is exactly why I do this. "I have never felt this connection with my team before. You set up a safe space where we could be honest with each other and actually feel heard." "I know we have work to do, but with your help and guidance, I see the light. When I look back in a couple of years at what we’ve achieved, I’ll know this was the right decision. Thank you." And it doesn’t end here. I’ll be working with Brian and his team throughout the year to make sure they stay on track, hit their milestones, and build on everything we worked through together. Seeing their willingness to be vulnerable, embrace self-awareness, and challenge the status quo has been incredible. They’re already making huge strides, and I know they’ll continue to grow into even stronger leaders. Brian, thank you for trusting me with your team and your practice. I recently spent a week in Vegas for two back-to-back conferences, VetPartners and WVC. By the end, my social battery was running on empty, but wow, what a week. I met so many wonderful new people and reconnected with great friends in the industry. While networking is a huge part of conferences, just like the learning aspect, what really stood out to me was how many of the people I met have a purpose. It’s not just a job to them. They’re not just there to sell their services, they actually have a mission. Whether it’s making our industry more efficient, effective, focused on wellbeing, mindful leadership, technology-driven, or simply helping practice owners step into ownership instead of just running the day-to-day, everyone I met had a vision for something bigger than themselves. Sure, for some, it’s just a job. But the people I met had something to share, and they were locked in on spreading that message. Shoutout to all the amazing people I met along my travels.
