Excellent tour of IU’s Data Center given by @JamieMobley this week sponsored by the Indiana University Bloomington Center of Excellence for Women & Technology.?Impressive seeing IU’s Big Red 200 Server bank in action and all the protections in place, including gigantic flywheels that are prepared to offer a minute’s worth of power for its servers while the backup generators kick in (which only takes about 10 seconds).?Glad to see two Cummins Inc. generators in the wings ready to support (the Data Center also has another brand in their mix). ?Thanks to all who supported the tour and the Data Center Operations team! #IU #DataCenter #IUBigRed200 #Cummins #IUCenterofExcellence For #Women And #Technology #BigData #

Accelerating research and innovation for next generation technology on the front lines of emergency and crisis response.
关于我们
Indiana University's RedLab brings together first responders, academia, researchers, entrepreneurs, engineers, data scientists, and innovators together to get innovative solutions rapidly adopted for the greater good. Finding the best technical tools and patterns to follow can make everyone’s life easier and allow for creative solutions to our most pressing problems. In this way, we are acting as a national, state and local catalyst to enable accelerated actions and progress towards long-term impact. Our strategy is to quickly and iteratively learn, test, and validate solutions with local communities, then work with broader community stakeholders to bring solutions to a global scale.

Thank you to the incredible IU Mexico Gateway team for hosting the IU RedLab and Integrative Data Science Lab from the Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in Mexico City last week! We engaged with faculty from UNAM (IIMAS and the Faculty of Engineering), Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, CENAPRED and TECNOLóGICO DE MONTERREY to explore how AI and data science can transform disaster prevention crisis response and resilience. The visit included the Explore IU AI and Crisis workshop at the Benjamin Franklin Library, led by Dr. David W., founder and director of research at IU RedLab and professor at Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, highlighting AI’s role in disaster prevention and response. Regional collaboration is key to building resilient communities and we are proud to work alongside IU Mexico Gateway and partners across Mexico to drive innovative research and shared solutions. #AI #DisasterPrevention #CrisisResponse #DataScience #GlobalCollaboration #MexicoCity #IndianaUniversity #LuddySchool #IURedLab #ResearchPartnerships
AI and Disaster Prevention: A Powerful Duo ? As natural disasters become more frequent, AI is revolutionizing crisis management—helping us predict, respond, and adapt more effectively. From early warning systems to real-time data analysis, technology is playing a crucial role in building resilience. ? Last week, David W., Professor and Director of Crisis Technologies Innovation Lab (CTIL), and the Integrative Data Science Lab from the Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering engaged with faculty at leading institutions like UNAM (IIMAS and the Faculty of Engineering), Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, CENAPRED, and Tecnológico de Monterrey to explore AI’s potential in disaster prevention. As an expert in AI and crisis response, he also led the Explore IU: AI and Crisis workshop while visiting the universities and held one open to the public at the Benjamin Franklin Library, sparking insightful conversations on AI’s role in navigating global challenges. ? And, of course, there was time to take in Mexico City’s culture—touring murals at CU, strolling down Reforma, and enjoying some well-earned TACOS! ?? ? IU RedLab was a proud partner of the #CIVTAK24 conference and exhibition held in October 2024. We took the opportunity to understand the uses of Team Awareness Kit aka #TAK and how #TAK is used, the user experience, operational requirements, and technical challenges across different TAK platforms, including Windows TAK (#WinTAK), #WebTAK, Android TAK (#ATAK), and iPhone TAK (#iTAK). The survey generated valuable insights from 52 agencies about TAK's implementation: - ATAK leads with 63% adoption rate and 4.4/5 user satisfaction - Top agency priorities: personnel tracking, GPS accuracy, and inter-agency communication - Situational awareness capabilities exceed expectations across platforms - Growth opportunities identified in training resources and platform stability Thank you to all participating agencies for providing valuable feedback that will help shape future TAK development. A full summary of the findings is attached. We are constantly working on research and innovation in this area and would love to partner with others! Reach out to us and let's collaborate to innovate! In times like these it’s clear how important first responders are to our communities, whether we’re in the snowy and slippery Midwest or in the dry, blazing heat of the west.?? With a goal of learning how to effectively and efficiently interpret multiple, concurrent radio communication channels in real-time, we’ve been monitoring and transcribing local emergency radio signals over the last year.?From water rescues, structure fires and robberies to mutual aid teams working together across counties, our first responders and 911 operators are there every day and hour responding to every need that comes across.?Thank you to all who answer the call! Follow the link to learn how Konnex.ai and IU RedLab are applying AI and emerging technology to emergency response call information. https://lnkd.in/gfMsEqtt Photos are from Bartholomew County, Indiana's 911 call center.
