????IUOTA 2025 CONFERENCE PRESENTATION ANNOUNCEMENT???? IUOTA is thrilled to announce that Danny Raines, CUSP will be joining the agenda for the 2025 IUOTA Conference in San Diego! Danny will present our Pre-Conference Workshop titled, “Root Cause Analysis and Accident Investigation.”? For those who may not know Danny, or are new to IUOTA, Danny Raines built an extensive four-decade career in the utility sector, starting in 1967 as a line-crew helper. Following service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Georgia Power, progressing from Winch Truck Operator to Apprentice Lineman, Journeyman Lineman, and eventually Foreman. He transitioned into contractor management and safety roles, culminating as a Safety Consultant for Distribution and Transmission before retiring in 2008. Shortly thereafter, Danny launched Raines Utility Safety Solutions, LLC, where for 17 years he has provided specialized OSHA training, utility safety consulting, and expert witness services. ????IUOTA BOARD MEMBER HIGHLIGHT???? IUOTA is honored to highlight Patrick O'Brien, CUSP as one of our Board Members! Pat has been the Recording Secretary for IUOTA since 2017. During this time, he has been able to work hand-in-hand with not only the rest of the Board but also with the members of IUOTA in a very hands-on way. Pat's career in the industry started in 1982 while he was serving with the United States Marine Corps. While he was at Camp Lejeune, his paycheck was nailed to the top of a pole by his pole line instructor. Once he was able to climb the pole and successfully retrieve his paycheck, he was considered successfully trained in pole climbing. After serving four years with the USMC, Pat was honorably discharged in 1986. By the end of 1986, Pat had been initiated into the I.B.E.W. Local Union 126 in Collegeville, PA where he is still an active dues-paying member 39 years later as a Journeyman Lineman. Over the past 39 years, Pat has worked for several Electrical utility contractors and three different Investor-Owned Utilities in the state of Pennsylvania. While working for those contractors and utilities he filled roles as a Lineman, Troubleman, General Foreman, Crew Supervisor, Superintendent, System Operator, Senior Technical Trainer, Safety Director, and Corporate Safety Program Manager. Currently, Pat is the Corporate Safety Program Manager for the Asplundh Infrastructure Group, LLC based in Willow Grove, PA. His primary responsibilities include supporting safety initiatives generated by the Asplundh Infrastructure Group Executive Safety Committee. Influencing safe behavior and striving to inspire commitment on the part of all personnel in complying with Company safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. In his free time, Pat likes spending time with his friends and family, traveling in his 5th wheel with his wife, visiting wineries, distilleries, breweries, museums, National Parks, and attending sporting events. ????IUOTA BOARD MEMBER HIGHLIGHT???? IUOTA is THRILLED to have Steve Kopp, CUSP as part of the IUTOA Board of Directors. Steve is the Director of Safety and Health for M.J. Electric. Since starting with MJE in 2010, Steve has performed various safety responsibilities throughout multiple projects and the organization. He holds a Certified Utility Safety Professional certificate,?among other certificates. Steve graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor of Science in Safety Studies. Additionally, Steve is the recipient of the 2022 Wilson Yancy Safety Professional of the Year award from Quanta Services and the?Winner of the 2024 Quanta CEO Innovation and Entrepreneurial Award.? Anyone who knows Steve knows his dedication and passion for what he does is palpable. Brent is currently the VP of Field Operations with ??Bierer Meters ?? where he has worked for the last 11 years. Over his last nine years there, Brent has instructed THOUSANDS of Lineworkers at no cost with the Bierer Meter, three-session, all-day, "Lineworker Safety Tool Competence Workshop" with Electrical Utilities and Contractors across North America. ??IUOTA 2025 CONFERENCE PRESENTER ANNOUNCEMENT?? IUOTA is thrilled to announce that David McPeak, CSP, CHST, CIT, CUSP, CSSM will be joining us to present at this year's conference in San Diego. His presentation is titled, "Lead People, Not Robots." During his presentation, he will discuss how people and safety must be led with an insightful and entertaining discussion on how to be a C5 Safety Leader who leads and protects people rather than managing robots and pleasing systems. The goal is to help participants learn how to increase their influence and authority through competence, commitment, caring, courage, and credibility. While also gaining tremendous insight into human factor and human & organizational performance. Following the presentation, David hopes participants will: ?? Use the run-up of C5 Safety Leadership to create culture and develop relationships so you can get over the hurdle of Lack of Leadership. ?? Lead People, Not Robots rather than Discounting Human Factors by leading and managing people how they are and not how you wish they were.
