Students from across Indiana University showcased their research at Regionals at the Rotunda at the Indiana Statehouse today. Representing Indiana University East, Indiana University Kokomo, Indiana University South Bend, Indiana University Southeast, Indiana University Northwest, and IU Online, they presented the significant ways their studies and research are addressing the interests and pressing needs of the regions Indiana University serves.

Jackson Njau, associate professor in the department of Earth and atmospheric sciences at Indiana University, and collaborators at the Spanish National Research Council’s Institute of History have discovered the world’s oldest bone tools, according to new research in Nature. The tools were found in Tanzania’s Olduvai Gorge, made from hippopotamuses and elephants, and are estimated to be at least 3.3 million years old. The new findings suggest that ancient humans used certain bones to make certain tools, suggesting that hominins were capable of thinking critically, identifying patterns and making connections. Yesterday we hosted the 2025 INSPIRE Benefit to raise critical funds to further care, support and research for Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. This year’s event highlighted Indiana’s leadership role in global Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
