Indiana University Indianapolis students danced for a cause at the 2025 Jagathon, a 10-hour marathon supporting Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research. This incredible student-led initiative raised $227,233.26!

IU students are making a difference in community health—offering free screenings, wellness fairs, and outreach clinics that connect Hoosiers with essential care. Through annual health clinics, students gain hands-on experience while expanding access to care in underserved communities. Led by the Indiana University School of Nursing, these efforts help bridge gaps in primary care through partnerships with the IU Center for Rural Engagement, Southern Indiana Community Health Care, and other community organizations. Additional IU schools and centers also contribute, providing vital services and preparing students for healthcare careers. At Indiana University Indianapolis, home to most of IU’s health professional programs, over 90% of graduates stay in Indiana, strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce. Three tourism, event, and sport management (TESM) students from the IU School of Health & Human Sciences gained hands-on experience in tourism, events, and destination marketing through internships with Visit Indy. These internships prepared them to be workforce-ready, equipping them with critical skills for their future careers. - Simmi Kaur (left) contributed to key community engagement projects, such as Indy’s Neighborhood Event Toolkit and sustainability initiatives. - Alyssa Varnell (right) supported convention sales and gained valuable insight into major events, including Taylor Swift’s sold-out shows and the NBA All-Star Game. - Annie Boyd (center) assisted with destination experience, strengthening client relationships and conducting research on how Indianapolis compares to other cities. The work of Indiana University Indianapolis professor Susana Mariscal and her team led to the creation of Family Resource Centers across Indiana, providing vital support to families and keeping children out of foster care. Now, Mariscal’s research has helped expand this impact with the formation of the Strengthening Indiana Families Association, ensuring long-term sustainability. Indiana University School of Social Work With over 32,000 visits since 2021, these centers offer safe, stigma-free spaces where families can connect, find resources, and build stronger futures.
