New Research Program Manager Joins Center Vanessa Kleinschmidt, MPH, has joined the IU Center for Global Health Equity as research program manager. In the role, she will work with both AMPATH and IU faculty to advance global health research. She received both her graduate and undergraduate degrees from IU Bloomington. Welcome Vanessa!

The Slemenda Scholars Program sends 2-4 Indiana University School of Medicine students to Eldoret, Kenya, during the summer between their first and second year to experience AMPATH Kenya by participating in rounds, collaborating on field projects and working alongside Moi University medical students. Upon returning from Kenya in late July, the students present their work at IMPRS Scholars Day. Applications for the 2025 program are submitted through the IMPRS Summer Program application portal. An informational meeting about the Medicine in Kenya elective for the 2025-2026 academic year will be November 21 at 4 p.m. via Zoom. This informational session is for Indiana University School of Medicine third-year medical students interested in enrolling in the Medicine in Kenya elective during the 2025-2026 academic year. Students who intend to enroll in the elective will be required to attend or send a proxy to a scheduling session on December 19 from 4-5 p.m. via Zoom. Before the scheduling session, students must submit a personal statement and CV via the elective’s iAbroad application, which will be emailed to all registrants in advance.
