  • Divine Resilience?unveils the captivating journey of artist and activist Caroline Cullinan, born in South Africa in 1956. From her early love for natural history to her activism during South Africa’s transformative years, Cullinan has now expanded her artistic repertoire to include captivating portrayals of goddesses and Orishas, demonstrating a profound connection with cultural and spiritual narratives, marking a significant phase in her career. Come and witness a visual testament that blends cultural influences, personal reflections, and a profound connection to the natural as a source of divine spirituality. The exhibit is curated by IU doctoral student of Art History Alexandra Nickolaou, who worked closely with Cullinan in bringing her vibrant paintings, textiles, and ceramics to IU from South Africa. According to Nickolaou, “Divine Resilience?is a captivating portrayal of an artist whose life and work are as diverse and dynamic as the landscapes of her native South Africa. This showcase of Cullinan’s work, from her engagement in South Africa’s socio-political struggles to her exploration of African spirituality, promise to profoundly impact and inspire, fostering a greater appreciation for diverse cultural narratives and the power of artistic expression.” Sponsored by the IU Department of Art History, IU African Studies Program, and the Tanner-Opperman Fund in Honor of Roy Sieber. https://lnkd.in/g8iHgqzt
