This single copy can be shared by multiple virtual machines in the host physical memory, saving memory.?? ? _2_ Ballooning – Requests VMware tools to (inflate a memory balloon) in the VM until excess memory is released back to the ESXi. _3_ Memory Compression - When an ESXi host’s memory got overcommitted, the ESXi compresses memory pages & stores them in memory. _4_ Swapping – If the ESXi host cache is full, the Hypervisor will reclaim memory from the Virtual Machine by swapping out pages to a regular swap file. Best practices for host and guest memory usage: * You should not disable page sharing or the balloon driver.? * You better specify memory limits and reservations. * Remember Host memory size should be larger than guest memory usage. * Always use shares to adjust relative priorities if memory is overcommitted.? * Try to set the right virtual machine memory size. VMware ESXi hosts can reclaim memory from virtual machines (VMs). An ESXi provide how much memory is specified by a reservation directly to a VM. Anything after the reservation is used by the host’s physical resources or if not available, it's handled by ballooning or swapping. Starting April 10, 2025, VMware's minimum licensing requirement per CPU is increasing from 16 cores to 72 cores, meaning every processor must be licensed for at least 72 cores, regardless of its actual core count on all VMware vSphere Standard for both Net-new and Renewals. ___Per-CPU Licensing Rule Remains: Each processor must still be licensed for a minimum of 16 cores. This rule has not changed. ___New Minimum Purchase Requirement: VMware customers must now purchase a minimum of 72 cores per product. This is a licensing purchase threshold, not a technical or per-CPU requirement. ___Product-Specific Core Counts: You cannot combine core counts across different products to meet the 72-core minimum. For example, 40 cores of VCF and 32 of VVF do not count as 72. You need 72 cores of each. ___No Change in Per-CPU Minimum: Even with the 72-core purchase minimum, you still must license each CPU for at least 16 cores. ___Late Renewals Penalty: If your license renewal is not completed on time, you’ll pay 20% more than the list price.
