Just wrapped up an inspiring Semiconductor Packaging Workshop in Costa Rica! As part of the ASU Engineering Professional Development team at Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, I was thrilled to support this transformative ITSI In-Country Workshop. After two months of live microcredential sessions, it was incredible to meet faculty from 9 institutions in Costa Rica in person and watch them collaborate and share their expertise to enhance semiconductor packaging education within their ecosystem. A huge thanks to our amazing team — Brittany Holmes, Jesús Silva Elizalde, John Ball and our ASU’s exceptional faculty: Professors Christopher Bailey, Hongbin Yu and Terry Alford for leading this impactful initiative. Today marked the final session of the Semiconductor Faculty Certification (SFC) Program workshop, where representatives from 9 Costa Rican universities and institutions presented their Curriculum Action Plans (CAPs). Each team showcased their innovative strategies for advancing semiconductor education, receiving valuable feedback from Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University faculty and industry representatives. The session also included: ?? A recap of key workshop insights ?? ? Celebrating the Successful Conclusion of the ITSI Government Leaders Forum (GLF) in Arizona! From November 18–20, leaders from Costa Rica, Vietnam, and the Philippines convened at Arizona State University, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, for the inaugural International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Government Leaders Forum (GLF). This three-day event brought together government, industry, and academic stakeholders to tackle critical issues in the semiconductor industry, laying the foundation for impactful global partnerships. ?? Event Highlights: - Policy Discussions: Explored public policy strategies to support the semiconductor sector and attract investment. -Talent Development: Focused on aligning education with industry needs through ATP curricula. -Industry Connections: Strengthened ties with U.S. leaders to enhance supply chain resilience and innovation. ?? Key Outcomes: -Strategic Roadmaps: Partner countries drafted frameworks to advance semiconductor strategies. -Workforce Initiatives: Launched plans to upskill talent for the global semiconductor market. ?? What’s Next? The insights and strategies developed during the forum will guide Costa Rica, Vietnam, and the Philippines as they implement their plans to bolster their semiconductor industries. As part of the Semiconductor Faculty Certification (SFC) program, participants engaged in a dynamic and collaborative CAP Pitch Rehearsal Activity in preparation for their final presentations. This interactive session was designed to refine elevator pitches, share insights, and strengthen strategies for integrating the Advanced Technical Pathways (ATP) curriculum into their institutional frameworks. ?? How It Worked: -Teams rotated around the room, presenting their Curriculum Action Plans (CAPs) to peers from other institutions. -Constructive feedback was exchanged, allowing participants to refine their strategies for integrating ATP curricula into institutional structures, such as microcredentials, certificates, and minors. -Participants also gained valuable perspectives by listening to the innovative approaches and challenges shared by other teams. ?? The Decision Theater serves as a collaborative hub where researchers, policymakers, and the business community come together to address society's most complex challenges. Using advanced data analytics, high-performance computing, and interactive visualizations, the Decision Theater transforms big data into actionable insights. A highlight of the visit was the presence of Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, who emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and collaboration to create impactful solutions. Como parte del trabajo conjunto entre los Estados Unidos y Costa Rica con respecto a la industria de semiconductores, la Viceministra de Comercio Exterior, Indiana Trejos, lideró una delegación conformada por funcionarios de COMEX, PROCOMER, MEP, CONARE y UTN, que participó en el evento “Global Leaders Forum”, organizado por la Universidad Estatal de Arizona (ASU) en colaboración con el Fondo Internacional para la Innovación y Seguridad Tecnológica (Fondo ITSI). La delegación viajó a Tempe, Arizona, donde participaron de reuniones con academia, industria y funcionarios de los gobiernos de Vietnam y Filipinas, donde se discutieron temas como recomendaciones de política pública para apoyar a esta industria, y la importancia del talento técnico en este sector.? Costa Rica fue designado el primer socio estratégico de los Estados Unidos bajo los Fondos ITSI, creados por la Ley de Chips y Ciencia. Bajo estos fondos, COMEX actualmente lidera la implementación de varios proyectos relacionados a la generación de talento humano, fortalecimiento de políticas públicas, y seguridad de la cadena de suministro de la industria de semiconductores.
