Yesterday, itselectric was honored to present at the inaugural NYC Climate Tech Showcase and to carry forward the words and the leadership from First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer. The initiative, as part of the Harbor Climate Collaborative, brought together some of the top investors and emerging climate tech companies across New York City to lead discussions on how NYC is doing ANYTHING BUT slowing down on climate. In fact, we’re doing one better, fighting climate change and growing the city's economy at the same time. It was also a chance to reconnect post-election with all those working relentlessly behind the scenes - both public and private to be inspired on how it will be cities that lead us forward to energy resilience. Hey South Central LA, we want to hear from you! You are invited to shape the future of EV charging in your community by requesting charger installations at no cost itselectric.us/join itselectric has partnered with Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) to launch a zero-emissions delivery pilot. Our goal is to expand access to EV charging in South Los Angeles in order to create convenient and affordable EV charging designed for the benefit of delivery workers. Delivery workers for local businesses, nonprofits and independent contractors (gig drivers) are all encouraged to participate in this pilot. The pilot is part of the LADOT Universal Basic Mobility program which provides safe and affordable transportation options, with funding from the California Air Resources Board California Air Resources Board (CARB). This zero-emissions delivery pilot is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities. As part of this initiative, itselectric is soliciting community-requested locations for EV charger? installations across the following ZIP codes: 90003, 90007, 90008, 90011, 90015, 90016, 90018, 90037, 90043, 90044, 90062, and 90089. When I bought an?electric vehicle, it was only my second?car?ever. If there had been enough?charging stations?when I got my first car at 33, I would’ve made the switch earlier. But back then, even in a city like Atlanta, the infrastructure wasn’t there. Now, instead of weekly gas station runs, I charge at home or while shopping –trading tips with other EV owners and venting about the need for faster chargers for the 2.5 million owners who live across the U.S. That’s why when I came across Tiya Gordon’s work, I was immediately pumped about the future of EV access. Gordon, the co-founder and COO of New York City-based itselectric, didn’t have a direct path to climate tech — her background is in design and public-facing technology. But as she began trying to solve a personal transportation challenge, she began asking herself questions about the state of charging availability at large. Today, itselectric is working to change that by offering scalable and affordable charging options — right in the heart of the communities that need it most. In the whirlwind of New York Climate Week (and MOVE Austin, and Forth Mobility) I wasn't able to give this news from California the shout-out it deserves: the Equitable EV Charging Act was signed into law last week! Thanks to this new law, municipalities throughout the Golden State will start planning for #curbsideEVcharging to serve drivers who park on the street. Once again, California is leading the way in putting policy frameworks in place to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. Many thanks to Assemblymember Kevin McCarty for his leadership on this important issue, and to Cory Bullis at FLO EV Charging for inviting itselectric to collaborate on this bill.
