    Together, we will emerge stronger. ???? Our hearts and minds go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, particularly our patients, friends, and families in the Upstate and our neighbors in Western North Carolina. As we work to recover and rebuild our communities, we must also remember to take the time to recover our minds and bodies. The psychological effects of experiencing a natural disaster can manifest in many ways throughout the days, weeks, months, and even years following the event. In this difficult time, iTrust strives to remain sensitive and adaptable to the needs of others. We are working to improve our response to future challenges, and thank our patients, staff, and partners for their patience and flexibility during this week's closures. All iTrust Wellness offices will re-open for business starting Monday, October 7th.

    Today we close out Mental Health Awareness Month by exploring one final facet on our Wellness Wheel...last but not least, Emotional Wellness! Improving Emotional Wellness is often the main step addressed in mental healthcare, since your mental health journey requires both understanding and managing your emotional responses. Developing emotional awareness and healthy coping skills ensures resilience and adaptability in difficult situations, empowering you to take control of your mental health. Though they may seem simple, these strategies for improving your Emotional Wellness are crucial steps in your mental health journey: > Be Compassionate With Yourself - everyone's struggles are unique, so it is important to practice patience and kindness when it comes to improving your mental health. There will be ups and downs as you work to improve yourself, so focus on progress over perfection! > Practice Gratitude & Mindfulness - Try to regularly catalog the things you are grateful for each day. This can be a done as mental list or a daily journal entry, and taking the time to reflect on positive emotions and interactions will help set you up for success. Habits such as mindful eating, journaling, and reflective solo activities, like walking or stretching, will grant you the opportunity to slow down and find emotional balance in your world. > Set Goals and Priorities - this applies both to your wellness and your lifestyle! Figuring out your short-term and long-term goals can help create a sense of purpose, direction, and motivation. Setting priorities can help you establish and stick with healthy habits, which in turn can improve your emotional health!     May is flying by and we are nearly done spinning the Wellness Wheel in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month! Today, we're exploring how to improve your Intellectual Wellness! This involves engaging your mind in ways that encourage learning, growth, and creativity, leading to significant improvements in mental health. Here are just a few ways to work on your Intellectual Wellness: > Engage in Lifelong Learning - enrolling in courses or watching educational videos on subjects that interest you are a great way to continue learning as you age. Another way to learn? Pick up a good book! Fiction or non, reading is a great way to improve your intellectual wellness in a way that cuts down your screen time. > Stimulate Your Mind - puzzles, games, and new skills are the way to go. From learning a new instrument to working on a jigsaw puzzle, there options are nearly limitless when it comes to exercising your mind. > Stay Curious & Creative - expand your worldview and engage in creative activities to help flex your intellectual muscles. Exploring differing perspectives on subjects or issues that interest you are a great way to increase your perspective, while creative pursuits like painting or writing can help you process information in new ways.     Welcome to the last week of Mental Health Awareness Month! We've been spinning the Wellness Wheel and exploring simple ways to improve each facet of wellness, and today we've landed on Physical Wellness. Improving your Physical Wellness takes many different forms, like developing healthy habits, getting adequate rest, and engaging in exercise. Changes in our physical health often have the most immediate and noticeable impacts on our mental health, which is why it is important to stay disciplined on your mental health journey. Here are couple of ways you can improve your physical wellness: > Exercise - even changes as simple as taking the stairs or parking at the back of the lot to increase your step count can help. While long walks, running, or cycling are great for your physical health, other activities like yoga or weight lifting are equally helpful if cardio isn't your thing. > Make Healthy Choices - this isn't just about what you eat. Healthy choices can include staying hydrated, limiting your screen time, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, and avoiding excessive substance use. Incorporating strategies into your daily routine can create a balanced approach to improving your physical wellness, in turn supporting your mental health. Its ok to start small, as long as you keep going and building new habits!
