ASM Global?recently unveiled the country’s first fully electric conference center in Ithaca, N.Y.: the?Ithaca Downtown Conference Center?(IDCC), a three-story, uber-sustainable venue offering more than 15,000 square feet of flexible space for meetings, conferences, trade shows, and special events, as well as a bevy of #sustainability practices. The IDCC is powered by the New York State electric grid, which receives energy from?a large portion of renewable?sources?such as hydroelectric power, nuclear, solar, and wind, so sustainably minded event planners can rest assured that no fossil fuels are used onsite. This week marked the official ribbon cutting for the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center! It was an incredible honor to host this momentous event within our state-of-the-art space, where sustainability and innovation come together. Esteemed leaders like Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, Mayor Robert Cantelmo, and many other impactful speakers stood on our stage to speak about this project. Their inspiring words highlighted the incredible contributions from all corners of our community that have made this project a reality. Their words highlighted the significance of this project and the positive impact it will have on our community. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone. I recently traveled to Ithaca, NY thanks to a prize pack I won at last August’s Meeting Professionals International Thought Leaders Summit. I wasn’t sure what to make of heading to this little town, but wow! Such a great getaway with so much to do! It truly is “Gorges!” One of the best parts of being a member of MPI is getting to connect with fellow members from all over the world. On this trip, I was honoured to reconnect with Lisa Conarton from Visit Ithaca who not only made my stay remarkable but also invited me to tour their brand new Conference Centre that just opened on July 1. The state of the art Ithaca Downtown Conference Center is a first of its kind in that it is 100% electric and no fossil fuels are used whatsoever. The palette of colours chosen immerse you in the wonders of the surrounding nature. Breathtaking murals of the local waterfalls make for cozy seating areas to take a moment for yourself. Each space is carefully designed with the event planner in mind. Pillars are at the back of the room and each room can be divided into multiple spaces with sound blocking panels so you’re not listening to next doors meeting. Sustainability is also top of mind at the conference centre with the Go Green shop open to the public. This store will offer the extras from the kitchen and events to the public at a fair and reasonable price. What a fantastic solution to food waste!
