According to Ocean Conservancy, we can promote responsible offshore wind (OSW) development with the following actions: “Conserve marine biodiversity and ecosystem functions by avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating environmental impacts; require long-term monitoring and, if needed, adaptive management of impacts on marine and coastal ecosystems, wildlife and habitats.”> By providing ocean users with easy access to fisheries Direct Compensation Funding programs and Gear Loss Claims Applications, we support adaptive impact management efforts that reduce impacts on incumbent ocean users.?? “Employ best management practices and proven measures or technologies to reduce impacts to?wildlife and habitats.”> By providing fishermen with the ability to record Ecological Observations and Gear Retrieval data points, we reduce impacts on marine wildlife by increasing data sharing measures that preemptively mitigate wildlife fatalities. ?? “Commit to transparency and data sharing, making data publicly available in understandable formats.”> By organizing relevant marine data into a single, real-time data repository, we reduce the difficulty required to access this data. By deploying personal fisheries engagement officers in areas of high fishing activity to demonstrate these technological features, we increase community-wide data sharing and transparency for mariners. ??? “Include robust engagement with state and local governments, scientists, conservation groups, affected industries, communities and others from the outset of planning and throughout operation.”> By engaging with a variety of stakeholders including federal and local government agencies, OSW developers, fisheries, and marine scientists, we facilitate industry-wide channels for information exchange ????and create opportunities for knowledge retention and collaboration. “Respect Tribal sovereignty and include meaningful engagement with Native American Tribal governments and Indigenous people and organizations, including free, prior and informed consent.”> By providing a free mobile app??? available to all that distributes real-time information on relevant marine activities, we provide avenues for indigenous people to anticipate and prepare for new activity on their land. “Undertake comprehensive efforts with underserved and vulnerable communities to understand,?avoid and mitigate impacts, and ensure financial, workforce or other benefits of development are?equitably distributed.”> By publishing open job?opportunities in the marine industry for viewing to thousands of app users,?we support equitable workforce development and financial opportunities arising from OSW development. ?? “Consider other ocean users and uses, and avoid, minimize and mitigate conflicts with and impacts to them.”> By collaborating with OSW?developers to increase the accuracy and clarity of mariner updates, we push OSW to minimize potential conflict that may arise from disseminating incomplete information. ???

Welcome Sinchan Samajdar!??? Joining our New Bedford Office, from Bangalore, India, Sinchan is in his second week with?Ithaca Clean Energy working in machine learning development. Sinchan will receive his MS in machine-learning data science from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the following year. With his expertise, Sinchan will investigate algorithms that apply predictive modelling solutions to real-time marine incidents. In his spare time, Sinchan travels to new locations and enjoys hiking in the natural world. You can also find him at the gym or in the game room in his free time.
