The University of Texas at El Paso- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter’s mission is to promote the transportation engineering profession and encourage students to find out more about this field and its opportunities and challenges Founded in 1930, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international organization of transportation professionals. ITE’s membership represents both the public and private sectors with professionals whose backgrounds range from transportation and traffic engineering to transportation planning and safety engineering. As new technologies in communications and engineering emerge, the broad spectrum of member backgrounds continues to expand. Since its inception in 1930, ITE membership has grown to currently encompass more than 13,000 members in over 70 countries. The Institute serves as an instrument by which information concerning the entire transportation profession can be shared. Through ITE’s efforts, its members are able to keep abreast of the latest technologies and services available. ITE is actively involved in the application of technology and scientific principles to research, planning, functional design, implementation, operation, policy development, and management for all forms of transportation. Through its publications, conferences, support programs, and individual chapters, the Institute promotes research and education, the development of public awareness, and the professional development of its members.
