ITE at the University of Washington

Earlier this week the ITE at UW brought 7 students to this year's ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals International Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. ITE at UW was awarded the ITE International Student Chapter Momentum Award, being recognized as the student chapter who has made the greatest improvement (or momentum) amongst all ITE Student Chapters! Our Co-Presidents Jonah Lorica and Garett Davis, EIT accepted the award on behalf of the student chapter. In addition, UW brought two student teams to compete for the Transportation Technology Tournament competition and International Traffic Bowl. Both teams were first-time participants and represented UW well! We are very proud of their success and school spirit they brought to their respective competitions! ?? DAWGS AWARDED AT ITE WESTERN DISTRICT ANNUAL MEETING Last week, six UW students attended the 2024 ITE Western District Annual Meeting in Sacramento, CA. ITE at UW was awarded with the ITE Western District (WD) Student Chapter Momentum Award which recognizes a student chapter in the WD that has experienced the greatest momentum (or most improvement) in the past year. Additionally, our outgoing Co-President, Garett Davis, EIT was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Our students enjoyed attending the info sessions and networking with other students and professionals. We hope to continue our success into the upcoming school year!

Last Friday, ITE at UW capped a successful and monumental school year at the Annual End-of-Year Banquet with students and professionals in attendance. The outgoing Co-Presidents, Garett Davis, EIT and Jonah Lorica, recapped the OVER 20 events this year's student chapter coordinated. Additionally, the incoming officers were introduced and led a fun round of Transportation Jeopardy. It was truly a fun-filled end-of-year celebration! ITE at UW would like to thank the PacTrans Region 10 University Transportation Center for sponsoring this event and for being a Gold Sponsor for this school year. On April 27, ITE at UW took over 15 students to the Sound Transit 2 Line Grand Opening! Together, they discovered the 2 Line, stopping at each station and checking out all the festivities and booths! We also saw our friends from Oregon State ITE. It was a great bonding experience for the student chapter, celebrating a critical transportation investment in the Puget Sound region. We want to continue to engage students at the university in the transportation field and pursue a career in transportation!

Last month, ITE at the University of Washington (UW) emerged victorious in the ITE Western District Traffic Bowl! Huge congratulations to UW senior, Peter Yu, and grad students, Garett Davis, EIT and Jonah Lorica, for their outstanding performance. They went up against top universities along the west coast, including fellow consortium partner university, Portland State University, who won the 2023 Oregon ITE Traffic Bowl Competition. This victory propels University of Washington, to represent the ITE Western District at the ITE - A Community of Transportation Professionals International Collegiate Traffic Bowl in Philadelphia this July. This past weekend 14 students from our?ITE?Student Chapter, consisting of engineering and planning majors, attended the 2024?ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit hosted by Cal Poly SLO ITE. Our students had the opportunity to learn more about transportation projects in California, network with transportation industry leaders, and engage with like-minded transportation students along the West Coast. Highlights included a tour of San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority Bus Facility, presentations from transportation content creators, including fellow UW alum Ray Delahanty, and a walking tour of Downtown San Luis Obispo. We hope to continue to participate in this annual event and provide students the opportunity to engage with future leaders interested in transportation.
