    ??[Innovations Encountered at #SEDEX2024: Next-Generation Semiconductor Technology and Engineering Insights]?? On October 25, I attended #SEDEX2024 to experience the latest semiconductor technologies and solutions firsthand! This exhibition showcased the impressive technological capabilities of many Korean startups. One standout was the DX-M1 chip from DEEPX, a Korean NPU startup. This chip can run Vision AI with stable FPS across various platforms. Similar to Hailo's recent launch of an NPU for the Raspberry Pi 5, the DX-M1 can be connected to the Raspberry Pi 5 to implement real-time AI performance. DEEPX conducted a 'butter test' on the chip, demonstrating its minimal heat generation, which showcased their confidence in their technology and impressed me greatly! I was also drawn to HyperAccel's LPU (Latency Processing Unit), which garnered many inquiries. The LPU accelerates large language model (LLM) inference by efficiently utilizing memory bandwidth to reduce latency and speed up model inference. I witnessed a live demonstration at their booth, confirming the impressive response speed. Although the LPU is currently implemented on a Xilinx FPGA, its excellent response speed and low power consumption are noteworthy, especially considering that FPGAs are generally slower than ASICs. HyperAccel is set to release the ASIC version, and I look forward to the improvements in performance. In the design tools sector, I found the no-code SOC design tool from Itda Semiconductor (?????) particularly interesting. This tool supports RTL design through a GUI without requiring Verilog or VHDL coding, potentially shortening development time significantly. Currently, it only supports Power/Clock system design, but there are plans for future expansion to enable various designs. As I have often thought about designing with a GUI or flowchart instead of coding, I believe this tool could be valuable in SOC development. At the exhibition, I had the opportunity to meet several system semiconductor startups and major Korean companies, allowing me to observe new technologies that could greatly impact Korea's semiconductor industry and gain insights into the latest technological trends. I was particularly impressed by the diverse approaches startups are taking to address AI acceleration and power issues. Finally, I had concerns about the practicality of the FPGA-based parallel processing accelerator I am currently developing. However, the NPU performance on FPGAs exceeded my expectations, providing a refreshing perspective on the potential of FPGA-based accelerators. This experience positively influenced my research and development direction for practical performance improvements.
