The Embassy of Italy in Washington DC is Italy’s largest bilateral embassy in the world. The Chief of Mission is Ambassador Mariangela Zappia. The Embassy of Italy represents Italy. It spports the interests of Italy and of Italians in the U.S., promoting the strengthening of bilateral relations in all fields, contributing to the development of the partnership between Italy and the U.S. in the political, economic, cultural and scientific fields. The Embassy coordinates a network of?9 Consulates, 5 Cultural Institutes, 5 Italian Trade Agency offices, and 2 Italian Tourist Board offices. The staff of the Embassy is composed of personnel from the Italian?Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation?and from other Italian ministries and public entities. Through its Consular section, the Embassy of Italy in Washington also offers a host of consular services?to Italian and non-Italian citizens living within its jurisdiction.

President-elect Donald Trump: “This evening, I had a first telephone call with the President-elect of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, to congratulate him on his electoral victory. The conversation provided an opportunity to confirm the solid alliance, strategic partnership and deep and long-standing friendship that have always connected Rome and Washington. During the call, we expressed our willingness to work in close coordination on all main international issues, starting with the war in Ukraine and the Middle East crisis, with the common goal of fostering stability and security, also in the context of relations with the European Union. In closing, we stated our intention to continue the process of strengthening the already excellent bilateral relations, which are based on shared values and principles, and agreed to keep in close touch.”
