If so, we have an incredible opportunity Sheffield Hallam University for up to seven fully funded PhD students to play a key role in C4, our new UK Research and Innovation Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness ??? . The emphasis is on interdisciplinary projects that explore how to create and sustain communities which have high levels of participation and social connectedness. Possible topics, include, but not limited to: ?? Social and community infrastructure ?? Cultural, physical and natural assets ?? Relationships across the life course ?? Digital and technological innovation and inclusion ?? Systems, markets and institutions ?? Equality, diversity and inclusion Social science students would be based in the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) but other disciplinary homes will also be available. After two years of collaboration—with input from NSOs, civil society organizations, human rights institutes, academia, and regional & international organizations—the FINAL Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data is here, ready for the 56th Session of the UN Statistical Commission. ?? An operational definition emphasizing meaningful citizen engagement throughout the entire data value chain. ?? 13 key principles to ensure citizen data production and use are responsible, professional, and ethical. ?? Insights on how national statistical offices can act as “data stewards” and “trust brokers” in the citizen data space. ?? Guidance on fostering an enabling environment for sustainable data coordination, production, and use. ?? A roadmap to help countries and communities localize and implement the Framework effectively. ?? What’s next? ? Developing implementation guidelines and tools on data quality, meaningful engagement, intersectionality, national partnerships, and more. ? Supporting communities and countries in localizing the Framework and capturing the impact of citizen data. ? Conducting a feasibility study for a data platform that will bring data, methods, and impact stories to life! Last week, we held the #AsiaSituationRoom to share the results from our recent #survey on the effects of the US Government's #fundingfreeze in #Asia. ?? The results: Some very grim impacts across the region. Here are some key highlights from the survey and discussions: ?? Over US$275 million of funding lost reported. Organisations are confident of replacing only US$2 million within a year from other funding sources. ???????? Over 3 million people and communities affected by programme closures, service cutbacks, and staff reductions. ?? More than 50% of respondents have six months or less of financial reserves left. ?? Some ways for #funders to help in the short term: mobilising #flexible funding, easing grant restrictions and reporting requirements, fast-tracking emergency aid, and pooling action. ?? For the longer-term, investing in capacity-building for NGOs can help diversify #income and reduce reliance on shrinking aid pools. As the crisis is likely to extend beyond the US, the sector will need to look at new funding models, strategies, and approaches, and build a roadmap towards resilience. ?? I am excited to share the publication of my paper "Revamped Faith-Based Endowments in the Arab Region: Characteristics and Challenges" https://lnkd.in/dKygZ2vB. The Paper is published in the International Society for Third Sector Research Conference Working Paper Series - VOLUME XIV - Antwerp, Belgium - July 2024. In this paper, I examine the recent development of endowments’ governance and their interactions with other societal actors considering their ecosystem changes. Despite sharing similar religious roots and financial sources, I argue that revamped endowments differ from their historical counterparts regarding governance, fiscal management, and addressed issues. Their flourishing scale also varies from one Arab sub-region to another. Therefore, I investigate sub-regional differences among revamped endowments before discussing their current administrative and financial challenges and restrictive legal and market ecosystems.
