  • Education Support Professionals Day takes place on the third Wednesday in November each year. When we think of education support, teachers and guides come to mind first. In reality, there’s a whole community of people supporting our children every step of the way. They’re employees who work long hours, tending lovingly to cuts and scrapes, repairing school buildings, keeping classrooms clean, sharing information and resources with learners and families, gathering supplies and materials, and preparing healthy meals for our learners. Whether inside or outside classrooms, these incredible people are sources of emotional and social support to children - and are essential in helping our school function. Education Support Professionals Day celebrates the unsung heroes and indispensable partners in every child’s education. Today, we highlight the crucial work educational support professionals do for our children and school communities! Thank you, Ms. Anne, Mr. Dylan, Ms. Mo, Ms. Nora, Mr. Chet, Ms. Amy, Ms. Becca, and Ms. Carrie!

  • Today, our staff took part in Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This important training equips us with the tools to support youth aged 12-18 who may be facing mental health or substance use challenges. Did you know that 1 in 5 teens live with a mental health condition, and 50% of all mental illnesses begin by age 14? MHFA helps us recognize signs of anxiety, depression, substance use, and more, and empowers us to respond with a 5-step action plan. By learning how to identify and support youth in crisis and non-crisis situations, we are building a stronger, more supportive school community. #BeTheDifference Learn more about this initiative here: https://lnkd.in/dwy2rAn Get resources here: https://lnkd.in/eGVaCjY

On 31 August 1940 Maria Montessori celebrated what would be the first of six birthdays spent in India. The 1940 day was an exceptionally celebratory occasion, as she was able to spend it with her son Mario, released from a Prisoners of War Camp, just for this occasion. She had not seen him for a number of months and felt intensely lonely without his support and encouragement. Maria Montessori reports on the joy of seeing him to her grandchildren – writing: “Your birthday wishes arrived late, as a kind of confirmation, because I felt your presence on my birthday. You will be happy to know that on that day the authorities here gave me a huge, unforgettable present! On the 30th a visitor arrived. (…) He spent the 31st with me, all day, leaving the next morning at 8.”?Mario did return soon afterwards and together they became jointly responsible for delivering all the India courses during the period 1940–1946. Today we take a moment to remember Maria Montessori. On May 6, 1952, "Maria Montessori went on from this life," as her son Mario wrote. Touched by the unanimous feeling of responsibility expressed by the Montessori community, with a deep dedication to further the work, Mario observed that it had always been Maria Montessori’s mission "to fight for the soul of the child," which he saw as her ultimate bequest. In 2024, around the world, many share Maria Montessori’s glorious vision and work with incessant inspiration and deep commitment. ?
