This factory manufactures 60% of the country's supply of IV solutions and was producing 1.5 million bags per day... seems like a problem to have 60% of our IV fluids coming from a single factory in an area which could get hit by a hurricane. Without IV Fluid our hospitals will come to a standstill pretty quickly. Especially non-essential procedures like joint replacements, plastic surgery etc. I already received an alert from a hospital on the West Coast asking all staff to conserve IV Fluid... Seems like with #climatechange and more severe weather events, these types of situations need to mitigated. Maybe the government should require Baxter International Inc. and other companies providing vital products like IV fluids to open a few more plants in other parts of the country? #patientsafety #AHA #VHA

Staffing shortages are strongly associated with violence against staff. Is arresting sick, delirious patients in understaffed units the way to fix the problem of violence against health care workers? I think not. If hospitals are spending 60% of their revenue on their workforces and patient demands and staffing supply are in continual flux, then why are they using cheap ancient technology and Excel spreadsheets to manage this large, 24/7/365 critical and valuable workforce? HCW staffing should not be managed on a shift by shift basis, but on a minute by minute basis with visibility across multiple units in real time and predictively.
