Shining the spotlight on the remarkable career of Janet Rossant-LSO Lifetime achievement award winner 2025, whose pioneering work has revolutionized developmental biology and stem cell research globally! Dr. Rossant is President and Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation, Senior Scientist Emeritus in the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology Program at The Hospital for Sick Children, and a University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. Her groundbreaking discoveries have: ? Identified crucial genes in embryonic development ? Developed innovative technologies for creating disease models ? Discovered trophoblast stem cells with profound implications for understanding pregnancy loss and advancing regenerative medicine Beyond the lab, Dr. Rossant has been a leader in developing policy on the ethical use of human embryonic stem cells in Canada. She has served as President of the International Society for Stem Cell Research and is an influential figure in the global debate around the ethics of stem cell research and gene editing. Dr. Rossant has also been a vocal champion of female scientists, serving as a role model for young women interested in pursuing professional careers in life sciences. Her brilliance has been recognized with prestigious honors including the CIHR Michael Smith Prize, the Henry G. Friesen Prize,?Killam Prize, L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science award, and Gairdner Wightman Award. Hailing from England, where she studied at Oxford and Cambridge, she is a Fellow of the Royal Societies of both London and Canada and an International Member of the National Academy of Sciences USA. The ISSCR joined with Research!America, hundreds of biomedical research organizations, and thousands of private citizens from the U.S. scientific community to urge House and Senate appropriators to avoid a full-year continuing resolution for Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations and instead provide a robust funding increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The letter also calls for the preservation of existing protections against cuts to reimbursement for NIH grantee Facilities and Administrative costs. Learn more. https://lnkd.in/gsE5ZWfn
