McNugget by Denny Croston, dedicated in 2018. Fashioned for February by Issaquah Arts, 2025 *McNugget was a beloved Rooster who used to hang out by an espresso stand in Issaquah looking out at Darigold. Known for a big personality, he escaped a grain supply store in 2002 and for 13 years loved to exploring Issaquah Creek, chasing bikes and motorcycles, and flying up to the espresso counter to greet guests - and ask for treats.

Issaquah Arts cultivates more arts by aligning local partners. In early 2024 the team set a goal of charting a path to re-open the Performing Arts Center at Issaquah High School to the public. Seeing a tangible, near term opportunity to open up space for more arts, community leaders, practicing artists, and arts enthusiasts joined together to boost the visibility of the challenge - and a solution. And in the fall, the City and the High School signed a new joint use agreement, including re-opening rentals of the Performing Arts Center. Check out our Substack post for a look at the story and the supporters shaping this new direction. How can you help? Become a 2024 Charter Member to strengthen our 2025 advocacy efforts. Saturday, December 21st is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and the longest night in the Northern Hemisphere. After Saturday night, the days gradually get longer as we move towards Spring. This visible shift in our natural environment is a moment to reflect on time, transformation, and new beginnings. Solstice is also commemorated through the Christian Season of Advent. Sometimes called “Blue Christmas” or “Longest Night” this can be a time to acknowledge and reflect on the darkness that surrounds loss, and the hope that comes with light. After the November bomb cyclone, so many in Issaquah have experienced loss, whether personal, business, or physical damage. And in this context, the longest night can be a time for quiet, calm, and restoration. Learn more about the Sound Bath in the Sanctuary in our Substack post.
