While innovative, this technology has enabled the spread of deepfakes, including AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)—a grave ethical and legal issue. This presentation examines the legislative measures needed to combat deepfake CSAM. We will review existing laws in Virginia and Texas, along with proposed federal legislation, that expand revenge porn and child pornography statutes to include AI-generated content. The session also follows one individual’s journey from concerned citizen to legislative advocate, showcasing the impact of grassroots efforts in shaping state and local policies.
