Particle therapy, such as protons, is revolutionizing radiotherapy, allowing precise tumor targeting while sparing healthy tissues. But what about high-LET radiotherapies like helium ions and BNCT? ?? Prof. Parsons will explore the biological effects of protons at different LETs, the role of complex DNA damage (CDD), and how targeting key cellular repair proteins like PARP, PARG, and OGG1 can enhance tumor cell killing. Seventy-three years ago, a milestone in cancer treatment took place: the first-ever clinical application of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This pioneering approach, based on the idea of selectively targeting cancer cells with neutron capture reactions, was the result of collaboration between Massachusetts General Hospital and Brookhaven. Since that first treatment, BNCT has evolved thanks to decades of research, technological advancements, and the dedication of the scientific community. What started as an experimental therapy in a nuclear reactor is now advancing towards accelerator-based clinical applications, opening new possibilities for patients worldwide. At ISNCT, we honor this legacy by fostering collaboration, innovation, and the continuous development of BNCT as a promising cancer treatment. ?????? Next IAEA event announcement! Dear friends, on the 30th of January there will be an in-depth day on the use of neutrons in scientific research, promoted by the IAEA. ?? The title of the event is Neutrons4NA: Empowering Progress in Nuclear Sciences and Applications With Neutrons. In the frame of the Neutrons4Na project which, as the dedicated website states, “promotes the use of neutron sources, both for reactor and accelerator-based research”, the event will be an occasion to know about latest advances in the use of neutrons in different facilities and to have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion. ????? ???????? The speakers coming from different part of the world will provide participants with knowledge, experience and updates on projects in which neutrons are used in different sectors, from basic research to industry and health. Thanks to the work of CTF members, Andrea Monti Hughes, Setareh Fatemi, and Naonori Hu, the cooperation of other members, and especially the availability of the speakers, we shared a space for knowledge, sharing, and growth. ????
