Next year, we will be hosting the third of our in-person flagship event in the iconic islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis ???? We are partnering with The Government of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis to host the next #GSIS2025, building upon the momentum of the 2024 SIDS4 Conference to address pressing challenges confronting island communities. This time, we will focus on - Water Sustainability & Energy Nexus, - Agricultural Resilience and Climate Adaptation, - Climate-Health Interactions and Geothermal Energy. Whitney Mélinard is an Indigenous youth advocate from the Kalinago Territory in Dominica ???? dedicating most of her time to addressing environmental and social issues within Indigenous communities. For the past few days, she has joined the Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy Youth Delegation for COP29 Azerbaijan to represent her regional community -- and she has amazed us every step of the way! Besides a degree in International Relations and Sociology from The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, she founded the Kalinago Ripple Effect Initiative to address social and environmental issues within the Kalinago community. She has also established Kopounoule Inc., a youth-led NGO focused on social and environmental issues. Youth-led solutions aligned with the Caribbean Region’s climate agenda ?? The intersection of education, health, and climate action ?? Practical insights to inspire greater regional and global engagement Youth delegate Tyrell Gittens expressed heartfelt gratitude to the OECS for its unwavering support of Caribbean youth at global events. He acknowledged the recent support of a youth delegate to attend the Biodiversity COP16 in Cali, Colombia through the EU-funded BioSPACE Project. ? Island Innovation's Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy COP29 Delegation Program was celebrated for empowering young environmental advocates through fully funded opportunities to learn, engage, and lead at COP29. Big news from COP29! ??? Today, our Programme Coordinator, Gabriela Nagle Alverio, took the stage at the COP29 side event Voices of Resilience: Navigating Climate Mobility. Representing Duke University, Gabriela shared the spotlight with an incredible panel of changemakers: Noelle Young and Jeshua Bardoo (He/They) from CCJLA, Jervon Sands (director of Born, Bred, Ga Dead ??), and Benedict Fosu Arthur, Climate Mobility Youth Delegate.
