Yesterday, we had the privilege of distributing 40,000 pounds of frozen fish, meats, and healthy foods to 28 soup kitchens, pantries, and community centers across Long Island— and we did it in just TWO hours! ???? Our incredible staff and volunteers worked tirelessly, and thanks to their efforts, 32,000 meals will be served to those in need. ?? Full hearts all around. The majority of the proteins were from New York State fish and chicken farmers secured through the Hunger Prevention Assistance Program, a state funded program that assists food banks.?This is just one of the many ways our work supports the New York economy AND our neighbors in need! Meet your neighbors: This is Gloria, 65, from Huntington Station. Her husband visits four supermarkets a week hunting for the lowest prices so that they can have healthy meals in their senior years. With their Social Security income covering only basic household expenses, they rely on Island Harvest’s Senior Food Box program to prepare nutritious meals.
