This past Saturday, multiple members from the WTS Iowa Chapter and ISITE - Iowa Section of ITE graciously volunteered their weekend time for the Girls In Science Event at the Des Moines Science Center. Many activities were set up to help educate students on the transportation topics of our industry. Special thank you to Wasama Abdullah for her organization of our booth and rounding up all of the supplies/materials. #ITE #STEM

This afternoon, our ISITE - Iowa Section of ITE toured the Iowa Department of Transportation Traffic Management Center located in Ankeny, Iowa. The TMC personnel provided a great overview of the functions and benefits of the TMC. Pretty neat seeing new technology continually implemented into their workflow of maximizing the safety and efficiency of the DOT roadway network. Following the TMC tour, many of us enjoyed a beverage at a nearby BBQ establishment.

Iowa Section of ITE and WTS - Iowa Chapter will be participating at the February 22nd GIRLS IN SCIENCE FESTIVAL (ALL AGES) event at the Science Center of Iowa! - The Event will take place from 9AM to 4PM inviting girls and families to explore STEM careers and connect with inspiring female role models. - We’re looking for volunteers! Help us inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. We need 3 volunteers per 2-hour shift, and you’ll receive free admission and parking options for your support. This past Friday, our ISITE - Iowa Section of ITE Board of Directors came together in person for our annual Board Retreat. We were able to spend the majority of the day together strategizing on the goals and priorities of our Iowa Section for 2025. Following our meeting, many of us were able to enjoy lunch together at a local brewery. Cheers to 2025!

Save the date! The Missouri Valley District of ITE (MOVITE) is teaming up with the Southern District ITE to host a joint meeting in Memphis, TN on April 13-16, 2025. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

This past Thursday, our Iowa ITE Section hosted our first monthly section meeting of 2025. Thank you to Nicole Oneyear from the Federal Highway Administration for presenting to us on the Safe Systems Road Design Hierarchy. Many were able to attend for the Des Moines area watch location, the Cedar Rapids area watch location, and online over Teams. Thanks to Doug Ripley at Traffic Control Corporation and Matt Johnson at Hall & Hall Engineers, Inc. for hosting our meeting. Enjoyed hosting the ISITE - Iowa Section of ITE members in our Iowa office for a great presentation by Nicole Oneyear on the Safe System Approach to transportation safety. It was a great turnout, in-person and online, and included the confirmation of the new Iowa Section officers for 2025.
