NPCI facilitates Indian digital payments. They support many payment methods.NPCI created a standardized protocol as a trusted switch. NPCI ensures secure data routing between banks and payment apps. 1. Ganesh Wants to send Rs 100 to Mahesh using his PhonePe app 2. Ganesh enter’s Mahesh’s UPI ID 3. Backend verifies, once successful its forwards the request to NPCI via SBI which is its accquring bank 5. NPCI has Ganesh’s authentication, account number, IFSC and now needs Mahesh’s bank account, IFSC 6. NPCI reaches its mapping handles to figure out bank details of Mahesh’s to validate Mahesh’s VPA and link to bank account 7. Axis checks and confirms Mahesh’s details to NPCI 8. NPCI hands over authorization to Ganesh HDFC to verify pin and debit from his account 9. HDFC validates, checks balances and debits amount 10. HDFC debits and sends response to NPCI 11. NPCI reaches to its mapping server to check where the money needs to be credited 12. NPCI sends instruction to ICICI ( Mahesh’s ) account to credit Rs 100 13. ICIC bank sends success message to NPCI 14. ICICI sends SBI bank success message 15. SBI bank notifies phonepe the transacation is successful 16. Ganesh’s and Mahesh’s app sends out push notification 17. The transaction is successfully completed 18. NPCI creates and sends bulk settlement file customized to every bank 19. Tim Cook explains why Apple manufacturing remains in China, in the main. This is going to be a huge challenge to the Trump administrations aspiration to bring deep manufacturing back to USA. The will maybe strong, but the ecosystem is wrecked. The universities and existing business sector players have tiny numbers of appropriately trained engineers. It’s probably not impossible to bring these manufacturing jobs back onshore. But its a big project, I’m guessing thirty years with a root and branch reinvention of multiple layers of the education and business eco system. Doesn’t seem the short term politicians in the US or wider G7 will have the appetite for that anytime soon. Having deliberately outsourced supply chains over 30 years of globalization it’s going to take more than a few strokes of the pen in board rooms around the world to make this change happen. Engineering and high end manufacturing are deep domains that cannot be recreated overnight
