Game Changing Results When Team-members Buy-In? | Expert Strategic Execution Facilitation ? | Workshop Leader for Executives | Mindset Coach |
Late one evening about 15 years ago, I was walking up Broadway in NYC after a celebratory dinner. On my walk back to the hotel, I passed by the display window of what I thought was a book store. As I stopped to look at the books in the window, I realized it was a publishing house. At that moment, I wondered if I would ever have an opportunity to turn my ideas and two decades of experience as a CEO into a book. Today, I’m thrilled to announce that my dream has come true: The Buy-In Advantage: Why Employees Stop Caring - and How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Give Their All, will be released on June 3rd. This is not another “same old, same old” book about how to increase employee engagement. The methods that worked in the past (if at all) are outdated and won’t work to solve this current version of the buy-in crisis and the three main factors that are contributing to it. Instead, this book is a field guide for all the smart, talented leaders out there who are: ?? Trying everything they know to increase performance, but still not getting the results their organization wants and needs? ?? Unsure of how stop the cycle of turnover and lack of engagement? ?? Wanting simple, no-cost strategies to get the best ideas and results from their teams If this sounds like you or any leader you know, you can grab a free sample of the book now or even pre-order your copy by clicking on the link in the comments. I can’t wait to hear your feedback after you read the sample! Also, I would love to hear what is working in your organization to increase engagement, performance and results. P.S. Thanks to YPO member Michael Chen, YPO Pasadena and Chair of the Retail Network, for taking a pic with me for the cover reveal! P.P.S. Read a sample chapter at www.buyinbook.com #buyinbook #buyinadvantage

Entrepreneurship comes in all demographics within our ISA — The Association of Learning Providers business community.
Bridget Johns-Pavlopoulos has always been entrepreneurial. She had just never actually been an #entrepreneur. She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania and ran a corn stand in her driveway. Instead of getting an allowance, she got piglets that she raised and sold at the county fair. After college and #business school, she held a series of jobs at luxury retailers in offshoot divisions that felt to her more like #startups. Then she worked as an executive at an actual #startup. But she had always dreamed of building a company of her own. A few years ago, she decided that if she didn’t take the risk then, she never would. So she did. She became a first-time founder—at the age of 51. A suburban mom with decades of experience in her industry might not be the first person who comes to mind when you picture a venture-backed entrepreneur building an #AI-powered company. As it turns out, that’s exactly why Katerina Stroponiati chose to invest in her. Stroponiati is a venture capitalist with a contrarian theory of entrepreneurial success: She believes that older founders can make for better founders. In fact, she recently launched a small fund to back founders of early-stage #technology companies with qualities that every investor looks for—and one that no other investor looks for. They have to be a certain age: at least 50 years old. That’s because older founders have lots of advantages that tend to go overlooked by investors who are obsessed with discovering young talent. ?? The Teamwork Doctor. Helping people achieve amazing things together. Advising CEOs. Facilitating strategy and team effectiveness. Sharing broadly as a best-selling author, YouTube host, and keynote speaker.
Hey managers! Is your team lying to you? It might be your fault. Today on the blog, a hot take. Low self-awareness managers invite deception. They Lie to You When They Like You Best-case scenario: they like you and don’t want to burst your bubble. 1?? Your expectations are too high, but they don’t want to let you down. You’re too positive, and they don’t want to be the bearers of bad news. Lack of self-awareness keeps you wrapped up in your good intentions and oblivious to their well-intentioned lies of omission. Ask yourself: are my team members afraid of disappointing me? 2?? Your team might also lie to you because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. You leave a presentation feeling like you did a good job, and they play along. You didn’t ask for feedback, they’re happy to avoid the conversation. Your over-inflated view of your skills is allowed to persist. Ask yourself: are my team members afraid to hurt my feelings? A lack of self-awareness will limit your success even when your team likes you. Why People Lie to You When They Fear You Breeding an unsafe environment will erode the quality of information you get. Few are willing to speak truth to power. 3?? Facing high expectations, your team won’t give you an honest appraisal. Instead, they’ll hedge, obfuscate, and keep you in the dark as long as possible. They might protect themselves from a threat you don’t know you’re making. Ask yourself: are my team members afraid to tell me what’s not possible? 4?? Your team might lie to you to avoid being the “one throat you choke.” Don’t be surprised if people tell tales to avoid being the villain of the story. If you're more intimidating than you know, they're trying to dodge the blame. Ask yourself: are my team members afraid to admit what didn’t work? Now, let’s be fair; your team may be lying to you through no fault of your own. Why People Lying Might Not Be Your Fault Myriad internal narratives might cause one of your team members to lie to you. ? imposter syndrome and fear of sharing insecurities ? conflict-avoidance and hesitance to share honest feedback ? grudges against one of their teammates Encourage Transparency and Candor Here are a few you might try: ·?Ask for two potential risks or concerns whenever you delegate a task. ·?Share a skill you’re working on and ask for feedback ·?Reward instances where candor has increased your insight and awareness. ·?Record a Zoom call and watch it with no sound. What’s your face saying? Self-awareness is essential if you want accurate information to manage. Whether they’re lying to protect you or lying to protect themselves from you, if you’re clueless about your impact, you’re vulnerable to deception. What's caused you to deceive managers in the past? #psychology #teameffectiveness
