Pentagon acquisition chief Bill LaPlante chaired a meeting in Honolulu, HI, with national armaments directors from key U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific in the hopes of establishing a new forum capable of bolstering defense industrial capacity in the region. The new forum will be known as the Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience (PIPIR) and is envisioned to be similar to DOD’s regular engagements with NATO leaders in Europe, which have been focused on increasing weapons production and bolstering supply chains to aid Ukraine and deter Russia. We are tracking this closely as it directly aligns with our mission by establishing collaborative frameworks to enhance defense manufacturing capabilities and address supply chain challenges, directly supporting initiatives to identify and leverage new sources of supply. There is a Somber Article out of US Naval Institute on a future Indo-Pacific Conflict. The tyranny of distance is the underlying issue This challenge ties in with the harsh realities of the lessons we have observed from Iran’s use of suicide drones to penetrate Israel’s Iron Dome defense and that there is no such thing as air superiority in today’s war. This article should not be overlooked. It's easy to look at the total dollar amount of the US defense budget and fail to appreciate the reality that less is spent as a % of total spend than we have witnessed for years.
