"You can do anything, but you can’t do everything at once." This is something I remind myself of often—especially when your to-do list keeps growing and your team isn’t getting any bigger. Rockford University was facing this same challenge. Their marketing team had big goals for international student outreach, but not enough hands to make it all happen. Instead of putting things on hold, they decided to outsource to get the support they needed. In our latest blog post, we share how we helped Rockford’s team meet tight deadlines, stay on-brand, and execute effective marketing materials without the bottlenecks. When outsourcing isn’t just about getting help—it’s about getting the right help. Want to know more about how outsourcing can work for your team? Check out the full story and see how we can help you lighten your load and stay on track.

I could use a little help. I'm planning the content and format for our new branding conference this September. Surveys are annoying, but they are so so helpful in figuring out who we should have speak and what topics to cover. If branding is something that's relevant to your work and interests, I'd be so grateful if you'd take 5 minutes to share your through. We're going to raffle off a free ticket to the conference if you share your name ant the end! Thank you to all! As someone who deeply believes in the power of brand to help organizations thrive, I’m always looking for conferences that focus on branding in a way that makes sense for nonprofits. Great fundraising conferences like NTC, AFP, ASAE’s MM&T, and more will host a session or two if you’re lucky that year. For-profit brand conferences are more about big brands. At one conference I really enjoyed hearing about how McDonalds used drones for a laser light show to launch a new brand, how could that help you? No shade, big brands deserve good content too, but their ideas aren’t just out of budget for nonprofits, they are out of alignment. You’re not trying to get people to buy… you’re trying to get people to by in…to an idea…a set of values…a goal…a purpose. I’ve been feeling for a while that nonprofits need to learn about creating, managing and marketing their brand in a way that’s designed specifically for them. I can’t find the conference I want to go to, so we decided to create it. On September 18, 2025 we’ll host ?????? ?????????? ??????????, a conference for organizations looking for ideas in strategy, identity, management and marketing. We'll have limited attendance, so join the wait list now to save your spot and get a discount when registration opens. Over the next weeks and months we’ll be asking about what and how you want to learn so we can create a great experience for organization leaders trying to create and manage brand. What do you think? Please share any suggestions you have in the comments!!

My parents got me a nonprofit impact report for Christmas…And I couldn’t be happier! You may think that’s because they generously gave a donation in my name to an organization I value, and that’s true. But it’s not why I’m so excited. What they gave me looked like a cookbook from World Central Kitchen (WCK) but is in fact a master class in communicating purpose. My Backstory When my brother moved from California to the DC area, we discovered tapas at José Andrés’s restaurant, Jaleo, and became devotees of his restaurants. Launching WCK only deepened my respect for him. I’m embarrassed to say that I considered myself a lover…but I wasn’t a donor. I wasn’t a volunteer. I was a patron who loved to know that the brand I followed was doing good. But then I opened this cookbook Like me, you probably already have fundraiser cookbooks that share recipes from members of a community. You probably have gorgeous cookbooks with mouth-watering photography. There’s probably even a famous chef or star who shared their story. This book has all those basics covered – but it does so much more. 1?? It Breathes Mission From cover to cover, WCK’s purpose shines. Recipes are grouped according to their?core values. My favorite is joy because a core value that inspires drinks and dessert sounds brilliant. 2?? Its Beauty Goes Deep The photography is art. Each image tells a story of resilience, culture, and connection. You can?feel?WCK’s empathy and respect for the communities they serve. 3?? It Knows Its Voice The tone is direct and helpful, which makes me believe WCK is like that as an organization. The book’s 304 pages glide by like you’re reading a diary. It’s a perfect mix of practical information and insider backstory. 4?? It Shares the Love Every page highlights the people and organizations that make WCK’s work possible. From fellow chefs to local cooks to famous foundations, including a cake made by the Duchess of Sussex as a thank you to other WCK partners, it’s a gratitude journal…with perhaps a little name dropping to reinforce the power of their partnerships. 5?? It’s the Perfect Vehicle…For Them It’s so easy to get stuck and think the only ways to showcase the depth of your work are through traditional marketing and fundraising communications. WCK created a product their audience?wants—and baked their story into it. It’s a reminder that your best deliverable is one tailored to your audience, not a copy of what worked for others. Marketing is all about three things:?Know, Feel, Do. Knowledge alone doesn’t drive action—it’s the emotional connection that inspires people to take that next step. For me, this cookbook sparked something I didn’t realize I was missing. Now, I’m a donor. How many fans are sitting in?your?orbit, full of good thoughts but no action? How are you creating space to flip that switch and spark real connection? As we step into 2025, I’d love to hear what strategies you’re exploring and what you're learning from it.

931 Words and no pictures…what are you supposed to do with that??????♀? Have you ever been given content to use in marketing with absolutely no images to work with to make it visual? ???Bonus points if it was also super long content. That’s what I did to our Art Director, Meghan Reilly for this month’s feature article in Vision. Channeling my inner Tim Gun, I sent it off expecting her to “make it work.” I really should know better, but I didn’t think. Sometimes even well-intentioned bosses dump and run. But interestingly, sometimes no instruction can be a gift. As a designer, Meghan develops digital publications all year long. She knows what’s possible with the technology and blends it with her creative skill set. This article was crafted from interviews we did with three fantastic nonprofit writers, Karen Rueda, Amy Gerhart Favreau and Meghan Goff. And since it was writing about writing, she turned the words into the art, highlighting quotes from throughout the story. With digital comes the opportunity for movement. That can get distracting quickly, so she selected just a few of the quotes to enhance with animation. To tie the whole story together she used a notebook paper background from stock. Much more cohesive than a random photo of someone typing on their computer. In fact, if you scroll back through the whole issue – there are no photos at all. Simple Illustrations and dynamic movement interact to enhance the story and keep your attention. This format for digital story telling is incredibly effective. It offers more visual diversity than a blog page and less technical lift than building something custom on your website. Take a look at this issue of Vision and see what we can spin straw into gold with digital storytelling. #Storytelling #DigitalMagazine #ContentCreation #Communications
