Teenagers with university faculty researching remotely

关于我们

High school students anywhere can get to work with faculty from world-renowned universities from the safety of their home. Whether you are from a rural community without access to university laboratories or just looking to boost your resume, IRI can help. IRI was born from the struggles of the COVID pandemic. We wanted to continue to make research opportunities available to talented high school students, safely. IRI continues this mission with remote, human-subjects research opportunities for students from around the world.

  • Another fascinating paper from our student! Ryan Verma, has completed a fascinating paper on a novel approach to statistical analysis—exploring how changes in one variable, like smoking, can influence another, like psychological distress, over time. His research compares three advanced methods for analyzing repeated measures data, offering valuable insights for researchers studying long-term trends in psychology, public health, and beyond. It's incredible to see our students tackling such in-depth and impactful research! ?? Ryan’s hard work has now paid off with a publication—congratulations on this well-deserved achievement! ?? He is supported by Dr. Daniel Rodriguez as his Principal Investigator, and Juliana Upchurch as his Research Mentor. • This Valentine’s Day, let’s talk about passion—not just for people, but for knowledge and discovery. Did you know that just like love, great research starts with a spark of interest? But for research to be truly meaningful, that spark needs to grow into passion. And here’s how you can turn that passion into a meaningful research project: ?? Find your true love (of learning) What topics make your heart race? What problems do you wish you could solve? Indeed, research begins with genuine curiosity. ?? Ask the right questions A strong research question is like a perfect first date: focused, exciting, and full of possibilities. Instead of “Do people fall in love?”, try “How does oxytocin influence human attraction?” Sounds better, right? ?? Do some background checking Just like getting to know someone, research requires digging into existing studies. And for that, Google Scholar is one of your matchmaking sites for knowledge. ?? Find the right approach Choose the method that best helps you get answers—just like choosing the best way to express love. ?? Analyze the signs Research isn’t just about collecting data; it’s about understanding what it all means. ?? Share the love (and knowledge!) Of course, the best research is meant to be shared. Whether it’s a paper, presentation, or publication, communicating your findings always contributes to a greater understanding of the world. But... just like finding the right person, it’s important to know that discovering your research passion takes time and in fact, you might need a mentor to help you. That’s why we’re very excited to launch something new—something that help students explore different fields, uncover their academic interests, and develop research topics they truly love. Stay tuned for more details! ?? #IRI #remoteresearch #research #STEMResearch

  • "It is not just publishing, but where you publish that matters. There are several journals specifically for high school students. But, these may not be peer-reviewed or impact-factor rated." -Bonnie Hale We totally agree with Bonnie, we believe that it's not just about publishing research—it's about where you publish it. Students may find journals specifically targeting their level, but not all of these journals are peer-reviewed or have an impact-factor rating. Peer review is critical—it ensures that published work is original and contributes to scholarly knowledge. But how can a high school student navigate these complexities? ?? This is where the guidance of experienced mentors, like our professors at IRI, makes all the difference. Our students work alongside research professors who are Principal Investigators, helping them understand journal quality, peer-review processes, and the importance of impact-factor ratings. By collaborating with leading experts, students learn to publish in reputable, peer-reviewed journals that are recognized by Google Scholar and valued in the admissions process. Don't just publish—publish in a way that moves the needle on your academic future. ?? #ResearchMatters #HighSchoolResearch #PeerReview #AcademicExcellence #Publications
