Meet your 2025 Chapter President: Jonathan Kaplan, CPM The IREM New York Capital Region Chapter is proud to introduce our incoming Chapter President for 2025, Jonathan Kaplan, CPM! Jonathan currently serves as the Vice President of Asset Management at United Group, where he oversees strategic operations to optimize asset performance and drive operational excellence. With over 15 years of experience in property management, Jonathan has held key roles in leading organizations, including Morgan Communities and Northland Investment Corporation. A Certified Property Manager (CPM) since 2021, Jonathan brings a wealth of industry knowledge, strategic thinking, and a commitment to leadership that ensures our chapter will thrive under his guidance. He is passionate about utilizing innovative solutions, data, and teamwork to elevate the property management industry. Jonathan's leadership philosophy is encapsulated in one of his favorite quotes: "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." – Ronald Reagan We are excited to see the vision and expertise Jonathan will bring to the chapter in 2025 and beyond. Serving as the 2023-2024 President for the IREM New York Capital Region Chapter has been an honor, and together, we’ve accomplished so much more than I ever imagined. Yesterday I became the Immediate Past President as we swore in Jonathan Kaplan, CPM, as the 2025 President. When I first stepped into this role, the chapter was still recovering from the impacts of the pandemic. We had lost all our industry partners and were down to a handful of board members. At my first board meeting, it was just myself, Jonathan and Sam. But from those humble beginnings, we grew — and we grew fast. We rebuilt the board, adding Alison Wheeler & Tyler Itzkowitz, ARM and later Marybeth Riscica, Elizabeth Baker, Faruk Heto, ARM, and Caitlin Murray. We launched four committees; led by an incredible team of dedicated volunteers: Brianne Conner, Nichole Davis, Ishmael Ubiles, and Jeff Stack. We re-established our Industry Partner program, welcoming 14 partners in 2023 and 4 more in 2024 — one of whom even became a national-level IREM partner. We also prioritized education, hosting five weeks of classes and supporting a cohort of CPM candidates who came together twice a year over two years. We didn’t stop there. We supported 15 ARM candidates with a chapter grant program to help them pursue their designations, and we hosted a series of events that made IREM a destination for engagement and learning. My favorite feedback came from a member who said, “Have you been to IREM recently? Their events are really fun now.” From local events like our mock cyberattack simulation to the Dutch Apple Boat Cruise, to trips to Indianapolis, Washington DC, Chicago, and Atlantic City, our chapter has been well-traveled these past two years. We also built partnerships with APTS of NY and CRBOMA - Capital Region Building Owners and Managers Association bringing more benefits to our members and theirs. Our communications expanded too. We launched a LinkedIn page, growing it from zero to over 950 followers, and a weekly newsletter that now reaches over 2,200 people. Were recognized nationally. At the 2024 Global Summit, our chapter members received four nominations for REME awards. One of our AMO members, the United Group even took home the REME award! These past two years have been a labor of love, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. From rebuilding the chapter to creating programming, forming new connections, and giving back to the industry I love, it’s been a truly rewarding experience. As I transition to Immediate Past President, I’m excited to continue supporting the chapter as Vice Chair of the Events Committee, and I’ll also be contributing to the IREM - Rochester Western NY Chapter as my family and I settle into our new home. Here’s to 2025 and all the incredible things yet to come! Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special — the board members, volunteers, industry partners, and friends I’ve gained along the way. You’ve made it all worth it.
