??Our last feature for #WomensHistoryMonth, "Benazir Bhutto (1988-2007) was an unwavering leader fixed on bringing democracy to Pakistan. Her drive was so powerful that she left the country several times to protect herself and her family from the military regime that wanted to silence her. Unfortunately, they were successful in 2007, when Bhuotto came back from a self-imposed eight year exile to try and bring democracy back to her beloved Pakistan. Bhotto first came into leadership of the PPP, Pakistan People’s Party, in 1988 after a miltary coup overthrew her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Serving from 1988-1990 and 1993-1996, Bhotto struggled to pass legislation to address Pakistan’s critical issues of poverty and crime in her first term, but she made headway in her second term by bringing in foreign investment and implementing social programs. Her legacy has carried on through her husband, Asif Ali Zar serving as president from 2008-2013 and their son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is currently running for office. ?? We are highlighting #IfThenSheCan ambassador Allison Fundis for her dedication to STEM education. The former biology and chemistry teacher is now the Chief Operating Officer at Ocean Exploration Trust, a program that broadcasts live deep-sea discoveries from the Exploration Vessel “Nautilus” to schools and the public. Her team is even looking for Amelia Earhart’s plane! Prior to her Nautilus days, Allison worked with the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative at the University of Washington to plan and install the U.S.’s largest cabeled seafloor observatory. From there, she developed programs and resources for students to utilize the observatory’s real-time data. Thank you for your dedication, Allison! Reshma founded Girls Who Code to close the gender gap in the tech sector and started the campaign Moms First to support moms impacted by the pandemic. So far, Girls Who Code has helped over 580,000 girls, women and nonbinary individuals learn to code worldwide and was awarded Most Innovative Non-Profit by Fast Company in 2019. Her powerful TED Conferences Talk, "Teach girls bravery, not perfection," has sparked a global conversation about the importance of raising brave girls instead of perfect ones. With over 6.4 million views, it's clear that her message is resonating with people worldwide.
