How to Ace that Virtual Interview! Since the pandemic, 90% of organizations now conduct virtual interviews during the hiring process. To navigate this new landscape successfully, it's essential to be well-prepared and confident. Whether you're interviewing for your dream job or exploring new career paths, understanding the nuances of virtual interviews can set you apart from the competition. In this guide, we’ll explore key strategies to help you present your best self, engage effectively with interviewers, and make a lasting impression—all from the comfort of your own home. 1) Test your tech ? : Ensure your computer, camera, and microphone are working properly. Test the platform (zoom, teams, etc) beforehand. Tech issues can start the interview off on a bad foot and take time away from the allocated slot. 2) Maintain Eye Contact ?? : Look at the camera when speaking, not just the screen. This helps show you’re interested and creates a connection with your interviewer. If it is a remote role, interviewers will be looking for someone who can have solid conversations virtually. Showing this skill is vital! 3) Prepare your surroundings ?? : Have notes and relevant materials ready and nearby, and make sure your background is appropriate for an interview. Also being sure you’re in a quiet space to keep any distractions away! 4) Have questions prepared ?: Interviewing virtually can be harder to make connections. Having 3-4 questions prepared about the company and job description, shows your interest, and can help build the connection with the interviewers. It will also show your preparation and work ethic! Be able to speak on examples ????: While this tip isn’t strictly for virtual interviews, it is one of the most important interview tips. Answering questions with one-word answers or not enough detail is one of the main reasons candidates are cut from the hiring process. Preparing a few examples of teams that you’ve worked on, how your team became successful, and what part you brought to the team will have the interviewers envisioning how you can help their team!
