Originally, the letters IPTAY stood for “I pay ten a year.” Begun in 1934 to give Clemson Athletics the support it needed, IPTAY is now one of the most successful athletic fundraising organizations in the country. IPTAY supports student-athlete scholarships, new and upgraded athletics facilities, student-athlete development at the Nieri Family Student-Athlete Enrichment Center, and student-athlete services such as leadership development, community engagement, sports psychology, nutrition, and strength & conditioning. IPTAY also provides funding for mascots, Tiger Band, and cheer. Each and every donation, no matter the amount, drives the IPTAY mission and values forward and elevates the standard of what it means to be a Clemson Tiger.

Last week, John N. “Nicky” McCarter, Jr. was surprised at the IPTAY Board of Directors meeting by Margaret Bond as he was named the 2024 Bond Distinguished Athletes Award Winner. The award was created ten years ago by Margaret Segars Bond (’84) alongside her late husband and former Clemson golfer, Steve Bond (’80), to honor Clemson student-athlete alumni who exemplify great character, citizenship, and service beyond their time on campus as a Tiger. Nicky McCarter is the epitome of a Tiger who has gone above and beyond to make a difference at Clemson, in the community, and in the lives of others. A 1980 graduate of Clemson University, Clemson Board of Trustees member, and serving on the IPTAY Board of Directors, Nicky is a lifelong Tiger. Congratulations, Nicky! We look forward to celebrating with you on the field at the September 28 Homecoming Game vs. Stanford.
