关于我们
The Internal Perfusion Association is a 501C3 non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting perfusion education and adult cardiac surgery mission work world-wide. In the last 22 years, we have operated the "Heart to Heart" mission (www.heartmission.com) and have performed heart surgery on over 470 patients in the Dominican Republic with an overall operative mortality <=1.0%. Our intent is to expand operations significantly and provide assistance to other cardiac surgery missions that support patients in need. We welcome all those involved in the cardiac surgery industry to join and help our cause.

This study explores the association between cerebral overperfusion and postoperative delirium (POD) in cardiac surgery patients. Continuous monitoring of cerebral blood flow, oxygen levels, and brain activity revealed increased middle cerebral artery velocity (MCAV) in patients with POD, despite stable oxygen saturation and autoregulation. #CardiacSurgery #CerebralBloodFlow #CerebralOximetry #PostoperativeDelirium

Joining a CardioStart mission to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Tanzania provided an invaluable experience in delivering cardiac care in a low-resource setting. Supported by an International Perfusion Association (IPA) scholarship, I coordinated logistics, collected patient data, and collaborated with a global team of medical professionals. #CardiacSurgery #IPA #Mission #Perfusionist #Scholarship

This study explores the potential benefits of gradual reperfusion in cardiac surgery patients experiencing cardioplegia-induced cardiac arrest, aiming to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury. Fifty elective cardiac surgery patients were randomized into two groups: a hyperoxemic control group with conventional reoxygenation and a normoxemic study group with gradual reoxygenation. #CardiacSurgery #Cardioplegia #GradualReperfusion #Hyperoxemia #IschemiaReperfusionInjury

This study examines cerebral autoregulation (CA) in adult patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy using diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS), a noninvasive approach to monitoring cerebral blood flow. Neurological injuries, common in ECMO patients due to underlying conditions or the therapy itself, can impair CA, potentially worsening brain damage. #CerebralAutoregulation #DiffuseCorrelationSpectroscopy #ExtracorporealMembraneOxygenation #NeurologicalInjury

This retrospective study analyzed 6,229 patients who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) from 2015 to 2023 to determine the risk factors for postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF). The incidence of POAF was 30.94%. Univariate analysis revealed factors such as age, hypertension, smoking, CPB time, and ejection fraction (EF) as significant. #CABG #CardiacSurgery #Coronaryarterybypassgrafting #PostoperativeAtrialFibrillation #RiskFactors
