For many of us at IPA Physio past year has been a year of challenges, growth, self-discovery, and transitions. Through it all we have seen our work family step up to help out, be there for emotional support, and take on new challenges that were not expected at the beginning of the year. We at IPA Physio have so much to be thankful for from this past year! We are blessed to work with the most amazing group of individuals, be able to serve an extraordinary group of patients, and find satisfaction working in a profession that truly changes lives. Thanks for being a part of all of our journeys! We wish you all a happy and blessed Thanksgiving! Remember "Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance." - Eckhart Tolle

Here at IPA Physio we continue to read. "Not all readers are leaders but all leaders are readers." - Harry S. Truman Our intention is to be at the lead of comprehensive care for our patients. Jessica recently finished Jaws: The Story of a Hidden Epidemic by Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich and found it a captivating exploration of human evolution, focused on how our modern jaws and teeth have evolved—and how they’ve been impacted by contemporary lifestyle choices. The book delves into the science of orofacial development, linking issues like crowded teeth, narrow airways, and poor posture to changes in diet, behavior, and environment over time. With a mix of biology, anthropology, and health advice, Jaws offers an eye-opening look at how small shifts in our habits can affect our health, from breathing to digestion. It’s a must-read for anyone curious about the connections between anatomy and modern living, especially for those with kiddos as small lifestyle changes early on can make a difference. #jawsthestoryofahiddenepidemic #orofacialdevelopment #reading #ipaphysio

Flexibility is defined as the ability to voluntarily move a joint through its full range of motion. It is important to consistently move in a variety of ways to continually reinforce multiple options of movement. The body is cement waiting to harden – but motion is lotion! Our bodies are made up of sliding surfaces. Factors such as age, structural imbalances (i.e. scoliosis), prolonged postures, repetitive loads, and injuries can negatively impact this sliding. When we stretch and move through various ranges of motion, we promote sliding through the many layers of our body’s tissues. We also impact the water content in our tissues, modify sensory input to decrease pain and down-regulate reflex loops, and, over time, potentially increase the length of the muscle. In order for a stretching / mobility program to have lasting benefits it needs to be performed consistently and frequently. A good goal is to move your body through every range of motion every day. This goal is especially important as it relates to your big ball and socket joints, the shoulders and hip. Healthy and mobile hips and shoulders are critical for a healthy and mobile spine. In this video Pete Rumford demonstrates a variety of movements to target each plane of motion of the shoulders and hips (front, back, side to side, and rotation). Remember, the goal is ‘ALL MOTIONS EVERY DAY’. Have fun and keep lubricating those joints! #flexibility #moveyourbody #stretching #PhysicalTherapy #ipaphysio

?? September is Suicide Prevention Month ?? In an article by the British Journal of Sports Medicine researchers calculated incidence rate of suicide from 2002 to 2022 among athletes from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and assess for potential differences by, sex, race, division and sport. The incidence of suicide over a typical athlete’s 4-year career was 1:17. That is one in seventeen student athletes. That is one per soccer team or football team. It is imperative that we remember depression doesn’t look a certain way and high achieving and successful people may be suffering in silence. Why Should We Know This, Why does is Matter? 1. Break the Silence: By talking openly about mental health, we can break the stigma and encourage those struggling to seek help. 2. Support Each Other: Show your support by checking in on friends, family, and colleagues. A simple conversation can make a world of difference. 3. Spread Awareness: Share resources and information to help others understand the signs and available support systems. Remember, no one is alone. Help is always available, and every conversation can be a step towards healing. If you or someone you know is in crisis, reach out to a mental health professional or contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988. Let’s work together to create a world where mental health is openly discussed and everyone feels supported. #SuicidePreventionMonth #mentalheathawareness #YouAreNotAlone #endthestigma

Physical therapy offers a wide range of benefits, particularly for those recovering from injury, managing chronic conditions, or aiming to improve their overall physical function. Here are five key benefits: 1. Pain Relief: Physical therapy can help alleviate pain through various techniques such as manual therapy, modalities (ice, heat, myofascial decompression, taping) and exercises. This can reduce or even eliminate the need for pain medications. 2. Improved Mobility and Flexibility: Physical therapists design personalized exercise programs to enhance your range of motion and flexibility. They also utilize manual therapy techniques to improve the mobility of your muscles and fascia by reducing the tone in the tissue. This is particularly beneficial after surgery, injury, or for managing conditions like arthritis. 3. Strength Building: Targeted exercises and strength training to address imbalances and areas of weakness help build muscle strength and control. This is crucial for supporting joints, improving overall physical function, and preventing future injuries. 4. Enhanced Balance and Coordination: Physical therapy often includes balance and coordination exercises, which can be especially important for older adults or individuals recovering from neurological conditions. Improving balance can help prevent falls and overall stability ultimately reducing risk of injury in the future. 5. Prevention of Future Injuries: Through education and exercise, physical therapists can teach you proper body and movement mechanics and techniques to avoid re-injury. They can also help you develop a plan to stay active and maintain your physical health, which can contribute to long-term injury prevention. #PhysicalTherapy #mobility #strengthening #ipaphysio
