Iowa State was the first land-grant institution in the nation to open a nursery school. These nine children were the first class in January of 1924. A long-time leader in early childhood education, the school has a dual mission of offering a holistic developmental and play-based experience and providing hands-on opportunities for ISU students who want to pursue careers in education. It’s also a full research laboratory complete with built-in observation areas. The Centennial Celebration is Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Palmer Building on Iowa State's campus and is open to the public.
