“American Indian and Alaska Native people were more likely to get liver, stomach, kidney, lung, colorectal, and female breast cancers than white people in most regions” according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study. This is due to many reasons, many of which stem from centuries of colonialism, like living in rural areas where cancer screenings aren’t as available as well as living in poverty so access to healthy food is harder to purchase. https://ow.ly/ebPJ50TYS8s

Since 2001, the US military has used burn-pits for waste disposal, predominantly in Afghanistan and Iraq. The waste being disposed of consists of trash, wood, metal, solvents, munitions, medical and human waste, and more. Jet fuel was often used as an accelerant. Personnel close to the pits, especially those assigned to tend the pits, experienced high levels of air pollution. These exposures have been linked to multiple chronic diseases including lung cancer. Thankfully, help is available for veterans an military personnel who were exposed. Learn more: https://ow.ly/Ahh650TYS33

These hazards could increase one’s risk for multiple cancers. Be sure to talk to your provider to determine what recommended screenings may be. https://lnkd.in/g2zzrWWc
