Our spotlight continues with Mike Wise of IoT Sandbox and Blockchain Wisedom. Mike sat with Michael Fiedel to share about blockchain and the future of Web5. https://lnkd.in/gGTcus-b "Web5 is in the future. The thing to remember is there's always something next, and the smartest people on the planet right now are looking at Web5, which is Web2 plus Web3. It's going to be, pun intended, a quantum leap versus what we have now." - Mike Follow us for weekly interviews with innovative voices in insurance, covering topics from startups to modernization. And as always a big thank you to our Presenting Partner, JobsOhio, and our Premier Partners: battleface, Beam Benefits, Bold Penguin, Branch Insurance, Central Insurance, Encova Insurance, Grange, Matic, Nationwide, Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, Western & Southern and Westfield. #insurance #technology #insurtech #future #innovation

More on the Government Blockchain Association Infrastructure event in DC. Taking place a couple blocks from The White House on the Wednesday and Thursday after the 2024 General Election, the venue, timing, and content made for a moment attendees won't soon forget. Sincere thanks to the venue, the sponsors, the speakers, the attendees, and most of all to Gerard Dache, Kathy D. and team for putting on what one panelist said was, "by far the best event I've been to for years!" A few of many takeaways: 1. This is third time we have attended this event. The persistence and resilience of this community is something to admire. Collectively, they have methodically and strategically pushed blockchain technology into government operations at both the Federal and State levels. Identity, voting, licensing, fund administration, sewer and water, supply chain, healthcare, titling, farming & food - you name it, it came up. Better, faster, cheaper, more secure, more utility. 2. Post-Quantum Resilience. We've been carrying this message now for three-to-four years. The smartest cryptographers at MIT and elsewhere are working on version 4, 5, & 6 of deep cryptography - deep, deep, deep. Perhaps this work might actually save the world when mature Quantum computing gets in the hands of nation states bent on world domination. The GBA panel on the topic nailed it in 25 minutes. Good to see. 3. The people. It's always about the people. Rubbing shoulders with and listening to some of the savviest people in government sharing their experiences, and, surprisingly and stunningly, delivering jaw-dropping, motivational speeches on their respective domains - they deserved standing ovations! Elizabeth M. Tanner, Esq. - Rhode Island, Heather Leigh Flannery - #Healthcare, Amelia Gardner - Utah, Ebony Thompson - Baltimore, Prof. Dr. Ingrid Vasiliu-Feltes - Funding, Michelle Lopes Maldonado - Virginia, Steve Henley - #Blockchain Maturity Model, Dino Cataldo Dell'Accio - The United Nations, David Beck - The Space Force, Anthony Howell - Bermuda, Alexander Mann - AgriTech Corp., J ?????? - DoD, just to name a few. 4. And of course, the scooter ride across DC, backpack in place, with Bryant D Nielson, author of "Tectonic Shifts" and other books, plus one of the original influences behind the GBA itself. Next time we'll wear a GoPro! What a night. GBA events are literally like drinking from a fire-hydrant. We sincerely hope to draw 5-10 people from the State of Ohio to the next GBA event in May 2025, The Future of Money, Governance, and the Law. They won't be disappointed. PS. Here's the vidcast we recorded at the end. https://lnkd.in/eHnR5E46 #GBAEvents #BCIN #DePIN #Govtech #Infrastructure #AI #IoT #Agritech

Hi, it's Mike Wise. At the Government Blockchain Association Infrastructure event in DC last week, after detailing my transition from building up the Boston Blockchain Association (BBA) to starting the IoT Sandbox in Cleveland, the #1 question was along the lines of, "Sounds great. Makes sense. Congrats! What's the purpose of the Sandbox?" My answer: The purpose of the Sandbox is similar to the BBA - to serve as a convener, connector, and catalyst of all things IoT in Northeast Ohio (NEO). The end game is to establish NEO as a global hub for #IoT manufacturing, across industries and use cases. It will take several years, but here's why. In the context of IoT, the Sandbox can sit at the nexus of four strategic forces: 1. Industry: There is already IoT manufacturing happening in NEO. 2. Academia: With Case Western, Akron, Cleveland State, Youngstown State, and host of smaller private institutions and tech schools, there is ample firepower to train up a workforce skilled in all things IoT. 3. Government: There are existing programs designed for economic development (Team NEO, JumpStart Inc., Bounce Innovation Hub, Greater Cleveland Partnership, Cleveland Foundation, others...). And now with Ohioans JD Vance, Bernie Moreno, and Vivek Ramaswamy in positions of influence nationally, it seems like even greater progress can be made in the next few years. 4. Funding: NEO has a rich history. There are many notable VC, PE, Family Office, and Economic Foundations which would like nothing more than for NEO to rebound from a couple decades of job losses and sub-optimal economic conditions. So while the Sandbox isn't going to save the world, it can be part of the solution. No doubt, Web3 is what's next - IoT for digitally-native data, AI for data transformation into usable information, and blockchain/DLT for programmatic access, storage, and security. With IoT being the most tangible leg of the 3-legged Web3 stool, devices that need to be physically designed and manufactured, what better place to do that than NEO? The production costs are low. The facilities are centrally located. Major east/west and north/south trade routes go right through. There are existing production facilities waiting to be turned on. There is ample human capital who would love to learn a new trade. And there are investors looking to deploy financial capital. Lastly, perhaps an even greater prize awaits. If NEO can pull off this initiative - as a community - what's next? Many are saying it's Web5, which will be built on top of Web2.0 plus Web3. Therefore, if NEO builds a Web3-savvy community, heavily invested in IoT, over the next decade, won't the region then be in position to capitalize on Web5? And then we've got a whole new, tech-savvy generation working on critical infrastructure projects across industries. Who knows for sure? But, Lord-willing, and I say that quite intentionally, as Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) said in "The Sting", "It seems worthwhile, doesn't it?"

“Web3?(also known as?Web 3.0) is an idea for a new iteration of the?World Wide Web?which incorporates concepts such as?decentralization,?blockchain technologies, and token-based economics.”?- Wikipedia ? Blockchain is not a stand-alone technology, but works in concert with AI and IoT, plus Cloud, Edge, 5G, etc. ? As the third leg of the Web3 stool, the global business opportunity forecast for IoT production is estimated at $3-4 trillion. ? The gap: There is no global hub, center of excellence, or standards body for IoT production. ? The world is at the beginning of the Web3 migration. At its core, it’s about data, privacy, security, ownership, inclusion, research, and speed. It’s much more than “a better database.” The US is already one of the biggest producers of IoT. Silicon Valley leads. Ohio is # 10. Manufacturing, Healthcare, Government, Utilities are the top 4 IoT use cases, each of which is a strength of Ohio. Use cases abound across ALL industry sectors. ? Why Ohio should dominate IoT production? > Manufacturing in its DNA. > A venture capital base and a pent-up demand for economic development. > A low cost of living, central trade routes, industrious workforce, pleasing culture and lifestyle, and a forceful launch pad powered by Manufacturing and Healthcare. > The academic resources for workforce development and research, launching start-ups. The IoT Sandbox is intended to be an Ohio-based 501c(6) created and funded for the purpose of establishing Northeast Ohio as a global hub for the development and manufacturing of #IoT devices for use across industries. If we as a community can act quickly and decisively, with industry, government, and academic support, Ohio can establish global leadership of a $3-4 trillion dollar industry by 2030. We can then build on top of that with whatever comes next. And there’s always something next. Let us seize this golden opportunity. Remember: "All boats rise with the tide.” #IoTManufacturing #IoTinOhio
