In partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), we’ve created a new method to tackle tough optimization problems faster and more efficiently. Based on Quantum Imaginary Time Evolution (QITE), our algorithm runs on IonQ's cutting-edge hardware to help find optimal or near-optimal solutions with less noise and fewer resources. We believe it even outperforms other methods like QAOA in speed and accuracy, solving problems with up to 32 qubits. This development showcases a practical approach to solving complex combinatorial optimization problems using the current generation of IonQ quantum hardware, distinguishing it from other efforts in the industry. This approach could potentially enable faster and more scalable solutions for real-world challenges across logistics, supply chains, and power grids. Tomorrow at #SC24, IonQ and NVIDIA will demonstrate an industry-first end-to-end application workflow that pairs NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q platform with IonQ’s quantum hardware. The demo will show off a method for calculating the properties of a molecule’s electronic structure using a combination of quantum and classically-accelerated techniques, which has far-reaching potential benefits across many chemistry-focused commercial applications, and may in the future help researchers understand how drug molecules might interact with specific proteins in the human body. More importantly, the underlying toolchain has the potential to accelerate workflows in nearly any industry or application area, maximizing time to solution without sacrificing application quality. The new achievement captures IonQ’s interest in developing solutions that combine the benefits of quantum processing units (QPUs) with the accelerated, heterogeneous computing capabilities of the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform. The advent of generative artificial intelligence has brought unprecedented computer-generated experiences to the world and transformed many people's understanding with regard to what computers are capable of doing. Behind these experiences is an unfortunate truth: classical techniques are increasingly energy-hungry. In a new blog post, IonQ discusses how quantum computers can provide an alternative solution to classical computers when handling AI tasks, and how vacuum technology is shown to lower the energy demands of systems. Read the blog here to understand the path ahead and why solving energy demands is critical for quantum and AI’s future success. https://lnkd.in/gYaHRHqm
